- Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Adam Up
It has been the end of the academic year here at my college following a disrupted time of it recently, We celebrated as best as we could and I now look forward to the upcoming academic year and this Summer am planning a number of new courses (ACT for hypnotherapists; The Neuroscience of Psychotherapy; Active Alert Hypnosis) as well as starting to offer up some increased support for the community around the
college (new peer support groups, supervision groups, monthly webinars) and so it is exciting times ahead and I'll be announcing dates and plans on social media and here.
What a crazy few weeks we have had here in England during the European football championships. I loved the tournament. My children's school were one of the schools to allow children to come in late on Monday, so we stayed up to watch it as a family (though my daughter fell asleep at the start of the second half and my son was very sad that we lost). It was the first time England got to a final in my lifetime and I thought the team were an inspiration on and off the football field and they
brought a lot of people much joy and happiness following the challenges of the past 18 months.
Here in England, this coming Monday is being dubbed 'Freedom Day' by many as most of the Covid related restrictions will be lifted by our government and I think there is a mixture of relief for some, fear and anxiety for others and a real sense of trepidation about what the coming weeks have in store for us. Importantly, wherever you are, I hope you and your loved ones are safe, well and happy.
In this edition, I have a bunch of new articles covering the topics of assuming positive intent, having more mental energy being consistent in life and finding happiness in the simple things in life,.
Myself, and all of us who work here hope you will all stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world. If you are in any kind of lockdown, I hope you are coping and your mental health is bearing up.
And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. A wide range of new articles to help in varying aspects of life here today...

1. "Listen with the intent to understand, not the intent to reply.”- Stephen Covey.
I listened to a fascinating interview with the MD of a world renowned meditation app when we had gone into lockdown for the first time here in the UK. Once of the things he mentioned within the interview was his own commitment to API – assuming API within communications, especially as so many of his communications at the time were online due to lockdown. Since then, I have worked on this a great deal myself and
explored it’s applications and any studies supporting it. I wanted to write about it and here is that article.…
2. Having energy is a well-known concept to all of us. We are all aware of physical energy levels, how they affect us, and ways to increase our physical energy. Many of us do not pay heed to the mental aspect of energy, or if we do, it is more of an afterthought.
Mental energy is just as important as physical energy. It affects us just as much as our physical energy levels. Recently, with people becoming more open about discussing mental health and its importance, mental energy has become part of the conversation. It certainly is in my therapy rooms. To take care of ourselves and others, we need to be aware of our mental energy, and we need to be comfortable talking about it.
3. This weekend just gone by was the final module of our current hypnotherapy practitioner diploma course. A number of our students are becoming graduates and are readying themselves to set up in business. One of the replies I give when asked about some of the more important aspects of developing an effective business, is one whereby I promote consistency – continuous forward progress. For me it that which led
me to be able to run marathons and ultramarathons, then go on to become a weightlifter, write books, research, write academic papers and run my hypnotherapy training college. I thought I’d write about that...
4. When times are difficult, everyone looks for varying ways to stay motivated and cheerful. Keeping a positive attitude can have a lot to do with how you see the world around you, but altering your vision of the world can sometimes be difficult. I know I find it difficult when we are in the midst of a pandemic and have various stressors that come with raising a young family and have a busy life. One thing you
can do to improve your outlook on life is to focus on the small things that can bring you joy.
Dealing with more immense hardships can cause us to lose sight of all the small joys and things we should and can be grateful for. However, the truth is that it is the little things that can lead us to a happier existence. So, here are a few easy strategies for you to begin appreciating the less essential things that are achievable in everyday life.
Pandemic and Lockdown Resources:
A range of skills, articles, videos and resources to help during lockdown and during pandemic times in general...

I hope there is plenty of use for you here that can be used to advance your immune functioning; plenty of resource, information and application that can help during these challenging times.
From the archives at my personal website, these sessions may also be really relevant to help relieve symptoms for those who sadly contract the virus:
Free Self-Hypnosis Tuition:
I think that self-hypnosis is an incredible skill, a psychological skill that can be imported to most environments of your life and applied to most aspects of your mental and physical well-being.
There are many myths and misconceptions about self-hypnosis, and it is typically taught incorrectly and not in line with scientific findings or with academic literature. It is an easy to apply skill that anyone can learn and achieve great things with and an aim of ours here is to disseminate that understanding to the public.
A great place to start learning is to download my self-hypnosis roadmap if you've not done so already, for free on this page of the college website: Self-Hypnosis Roadmap.
These free resources are all based upon my own research conducted at Bournemouth University and my book on the subject, the Science of Self-Hypnosis.
Useful resources for hypnotherapists:
Visit this page for lots of resources for hypnotherapists.
The Anglo European College of Therapeutic Hypnosis:
In recent weeks, my social media output has been filled with video clips of me squatting at the gym, memes about hypnosis, photos from my life and loads of articles from our vaults and some other bits and pieces.
