- Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Adam Up
We are in lockdown again here in the UK. I hope you are coping, I hope you are safe and well. As with the previous edition, I am only sharing articles, videos and resources in this newsletter today, there is no talk of anything else, and nothing being promoted or sold here today in this edition...
The main aim of this Adam Up periodical newsletter I've been sending out for the past two decades has always been to equip readers with stimulating information and psychological tools to aid with varying facets of life as well as helping to concentrate upon and amplify positive shifts we can make in our thinking, our behaviour, our attitudes and perspectives - and it is during these times when so much
seems negative that I want my work to be able to help.
The reason for my headline today is that I am looking for participants to be part of a major hypnosis research programme I am heading up at Bournemouth University. Full details are given below.
In this edition, I have a couple of new articles covering the topics of how to set goals for 2021, how to deal with uncertainty and the philosophy of happiness.
I've also included a new video; about how to create happy memories during times of adversity.
Myself, and all of us who work here hope you will all stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world. If you are in lockdown (or a strict tier with restrictions as is the case here in the UK), I hope you are coping and your mental health is bearing up.
And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it.
Also, we delete you from our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
In compliance with GDPR, the only information that we hold is your name and email address. We will not share these details with anyone and we will only use them to send you this and related, relevant broadcasts. This broadcast is only sent to people who have signed up with our double opt-in system.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?

“It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach.” — Benjamin E. Mays
2021 looks to be a year of great uncertainty and the current environment is characterised by significant challenges, including an uncertain future and pressured margins. This uncertainty makes it more difficult than usual to set clear goals, have objectives and make a plan that supports them.
When we find ourselves in a situation like the current one, we aim to do the best we can, apply ourselves accordingly to get the best out of ourselves, make the most out of it as the situation changes passes. Read this article in full here....
“Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.” – John Allen Paulos
Humans naturally do not like uncertainty, especially if we have always been living in a predictable environment. Unfortunately, that’s not where we are today in the middle of a global crisis and pandemic with Covid-19. The uncertainty and streess that we are experiencing is not only the fear of becoming ill ourselves but also concern about loved ones, loss of income, changes to the way we live our lives and changes in the way we do things.
Uncertainty creates fear, panic, worry, anxiety, and all kinds of emotions, and a seeming need for certainty can contribute to low mood and even depression. The question is how do we deal with uncertainty?
Coping with uncertainty is an emotional skill that comes with practice. Here today, I’m sharing some practical steps that might help. Read this article in full here....
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” — Buddha
What is Happiness? Simply put, many consider it to be the state of being happy. However, if you think deeply, you could perhaps suggest or argue that all of our endeavours in life from the day we are born to the day we die ultimately are aimed at achieving this one over-arching objective… the creation of happiness…! Here I write about a variety of philosophies of happiness as ways of being happier ourselves....

How to create happy memories during difficult times....

"It’s realizing that a great dream is not as good as a great memory. The dream can be had by anyone. The memory – must be made.” – Eric Thomas
In this video, I’m talking about the creation of happy memories during these difficult times.
Memories, especially happy ones, fortify relationships and ensure endurance, even through difficult times. Memories can nourish us healthily in a number of ways.
Memories don’t necessarily happen by accident or passively. That is, we can plan our lives and examine the way we think and reflect in order to create enduring happy and beneficial memories. In this video I share some simple ways to create happy memories during this difficult time. Click here to watch the full video...Enjoy:

Would you be interested in being a participant in a major hypnosis research study?
I am running an experiment at Bournemouth University, within the Psychology department as part of a wider research programme. In the study you'll be screened for hypnotisability, you'll experience hypnosis a number of times, you'll learn some interesting psychological skills and you'll take part in a computer game, the study is called:
The Effect of Hypnosis and Psychological Skills Training on Stroop Task Performance.
The entire process can be conducted from the comfort of your own home and will take approximately 2-2.5 hours in total spread across two consecutive days. We are looking for participants and I'd love it if you would take part.
To enrol in the study as a participant, please visit the following page, read and complete the consent form and then click the submit button. Shortly after that (during UK working hours), you'll be sent login details to start your participation in the study:
If you have any questions, get in touch; thank you for considering being a part of this study.
Best wishes, Adam.
In recent weeks, my social media output has been filled with video clips of me squatting at the gym, memes about hypnosis, photos from my life and loads of articles from our vaults and some other bits and pieces.
