- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of Adam Up of 2020.
It's an unusual title to this edition, and a far cry from the usual new year fervour, isn't it? I watched the recent Netflix documentary about the former American Football player Aaron Hernandez and discussed it with a friend of mine who thought it incredible that such a talented man could lead such a problematic life and she (my friend) believed that he hated himself and asked the question that is the title of today's
edition. It was a huge coincidence that I had actually written an article this past week on the subject of stopping hating yourself.
I have two other new articles for you today that I think set up a new year in a very different way than we are usually expected to. One about expressing yourself effectively and the other about staying hungry - meant figuratively; with it being January, you may be that way physically anyway right now!
I have a couple of new videos for you today also - one that gives some instruction on how to find the courage to go after the life that you want this year, and another aimed at hypnotherapists - and why I believe they must question their education.
In addition to all this new stuff I'm sharing with you this week, I also have a new evidence-based hypnosis meme for you.
And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it. Also, we delete you from
our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
In compliance with GDPR, the only information that we hold is your name and email address. We will not share these details with anyone and we will only use them to send you this and related, relevant broadcasts. This broadcast is only sent to people who have signed up with our double opt-in system.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?

Finding courage, and questioning education!
|
At the beginning of each new year, I encounter a great many people with big dreams for their lives and the year ahead. Yet so many I speak with and meet are afraid of going after the life they truly want; they fear failure, they fear success. It is such a recurring theme that I wanted to share a video about having courage to go after the life you want. Enjoy this…
Video: How To Find The Courage To Go After The Life You Want.
In this second video I speak about a topic I am passionate about and one that is going to help the hypnotherapy field advance. I talk about a meme that encapsulated an attitude I see happen a great deal in the hypnotherapy field. Enjoy this, I've included on the article page the Charlie Brown cartoon meme that I refer to in the clip for you to have a look at too…

Express yourself, stay hungry for success and stop hating yourself ...
|
“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.”- Bruce Lee
Yes, expressing yourself out there for other people to gawk at and judge is just about as terrifying as it gets for many of us. It’s the point at which your thoughts, ideas and opinions are exposed, and that’s the point where shit gets real. They’re no longer just your thoughts, ideas or opinions; they’re parts of you that you’ve made public. It’s something I’ve had to work on (and agonise over) over the years due to my working roles in particular.
Expressing effectively can help us to connect, navigate and grow with others. Researcher Judith Glaser agrees on the importance of self-expression; she notes that authentic self-expression not only encourages us to be the best we can be, it allows us to work effectively with others.
It’s this feeling of exposure and vulnerability that keeps people back from the brink of expressing themselves out there, and it’s something of a tragedy.
So many thoughts and ideas are held back because people fear what might happen when they’re in the spotlight. You might be afraid that you’ll be judged. Perhaps the idea of promoting yourself fills you with dread, or maybe you just don’t trust yourself, or your voice (or even think you have one!).
This fear is natural and understandable, so here in this article are 10 ways to help you overcome that and go on to express yourself more effectively, read on for the full references and content:
This was my final blog post of the year, and with it being published in the midst of the festive season, it seemed very relevant to me to be writing about ‘staying hungry’ when most of us spend so much time during this season being stuffed full. Of course, I am referring toa different meaning with this article, but the parallel is relevant – that is, as the new year approaches, it is well worth getting hungry
and enjoying having hunger again – physically and of course psychologically…
There are a lot of factors that contribute to decreased motivation. Perhaps something has changed in your life and your old goals are no longer that much of a priority to you. Or maybe you experienced failure and now you’re discouraged?
When you first start something or get involved in something new, chances are you’ll feel the excitement. The excitement helps keep you motivated. But how do you stay motivated when that initial enthusiasm starts to fade? The trick is to get yourself excited and keep going.
The choice is yours. You can either choose to keep on going, or you can quit. But rest assured that once you quit you are sometimes unlikely to be as motivated as you were before. It’s natural to go through slumps, but your attitude often determines your outcome. As we have a new year edging closer, it’ll pay to re-establish your hunger for success.
Here are 10 powerful ways to stay motivated, energised, and focused for success, read the full article for the references and content:
With the new year, I have encountered a number of clients who claim to hate themselves – their bodies, their behaviours, their lives in general. I have written often about learning to love yourself but I wanted to tackle the topic of hating oneself too, and offer up some ways to stop that, to enable you to move on to liking and then loving yourself.
“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” – Lucille Ball
What is our purpose? We tend to all have varying ideas of what our purpose is (do read this article about finding your purpose). Life is too short to be spent living one that you hate. Finding the purpose of your life will take up much of your life and may still leave you looking for answers about how to enjoy and even love your life.
A simple approach is simply to take time out to do things that you love. Maybe you will also find your purpose (or more of it) on the way. Aside from fulfilling a sense of purpose, and your working role, manage your time to do more of what you love, whatever that may be – writing (for your blog or a novel, for example), playing your favourite sports or engaging in healthy activity, reading, dancing, painting or anything else. I like to paddle board at the local beach, run and follow my local
sports team (all of which I tend to do with my family these days, but can all be done alone too).
So if you hate your life, the question I am aiming to answer here today is this, “How can you stop hating your life and start pursuing your passions and creating a different life, one that you enjoy and can love living?” Here in the full article are certain tactics that will help you fall in love with yourself and your life again:
