- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
Since the previous edition of Adam Up, we have had the UK Hypnosis Convention. Following my after dinner speech, I ordered one of the largest round of tequlias I've ever ordered for my team and some friends, they lined up virtually the entire length of the private bar we had. It was such a relief following so much worry and stress about the event in the lead up.
This is partly explained in a video I'm sharing today. I've got a video of my after dinner speech for you as well as another video about being a free thinker in the hypnotherapy field.
I have three new articles for you. One about overcoming fear of change, another about qualities of leaders that are actually worth following, and the third one is about thinking outside of the box. I'm keeping with themes that so many people profess to know and understand yet few actually employ or apply.
In addition to all this new stuff I'm sharing with you this week, I also have a new evidence-based hypnosis meme for you.
And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it. Also, we delete you from
our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
In compliance with GDPR, the only information that we hold is your name and email address. We will not share these details with anyone and we will only use them to send you this and related, relevant broadcasts. This broadcast is only sent to people who have signed up with our double opt-in system.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?
The 2019 UK Hypnosis Convention
Another Adventure...
|
I've been going on about this for long enough, haven't I? I'm not offering up a report or anything like that today, you can go and see the UK Hypnosis Convention's Facebook page, Facebook group, twitter account or Instagram account to see all the pictures we took during and after the event. It was an amazing experience for me in particular. I wanted to share a clip from the event, and in coming
weeks I'll be able to announce the access to some of the videos from the lectures.
This is a clip of my after dinner speech at the gala dinner to our 230 guests. I’ve deleted several minutes of gushing thank yous from the beginning. Below the video, I’ve added an image of the centre page spread of the UKHC 2019 programme that I refer to here – the video and the image highlight my vision for this event and also explain an attitude and mindset that I hope is inherent in the event going
forward.

How hypnotherapists can become free thinkers.
|
Following a conversation I had with a colleague at the UK hypnosis convention last weekend, I decided to record this video. The conversation was stimulated by watching our keynote speaker mention the notion that many people in the hypnotherapy field belong to tribes. In my opinion, that tribalism can be considered a lack of free thinking – defending a stance and not shifting from it even when presented with
viable evidence to refute the stance, for example. All of us in these fields will have heard about the notion of being a free thinker, but how many of us actually are free thinkers?
In this video I explore this and share some ways in which all hypnotherapists can ensure they are free thinkers. Enjoy!

Fear of change holds so many of us back.
“It’s better to regret something you have done than regret something you haven’t done.” – Billie Joe Armstrong
Change feels uncomfortable to many people. And when it comes to change, for some people the thought of transition is enough to spark jaw-clenching fear. If you face regular or big changes and feel the white heat of panic start to take hold, you’re not alone. Fear of change is totally normal. When you apply yourself, you can overcome the fear of the unknown and actually embrace it.
Fear in itself is not the problem; the problem is that fear overwhelms the senses. When it comes to dealing with change, research indicates that there are three primary emotions we experience: cynicism, fear, and acceptance. The first two are strongly negative, and the latter is vaguely positive. So resisting change makes things worse — whatever we resist persists.
On the other end of the spectrum, the sense of overwhelm creates panic. You go into overdrive, desperately seeking to get back to your comfort zone.
The good news? Fear is an entirely normal response to change. And there’s even better news: it’s possible to change your mindset so that fear doesn’t take over. Here are a number of ways to help do that, read the article here for the full article and references….
How To Overcome Fear of Change
It is a popular and common expression, and most of us have been encouraged to think outside the box and many of us believe that we do think outside the box – yet in my therapy rooms, in my classrooms, and in other areas of my personal and professional life, I encounter many people who very rarely (if ever) actually think outside of the box and it’s something that I am choosing to write about today.
“If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking.” – George S. Patton.
You cannot possibly think outside the box unless you understand the nature of the box that binds your current thinking. It’s important to understand your current rules and conventions that guide your decision making process.
To “think outside the box” is to think beyond the ordinary or the obvious. Once you have stepped out of the box, you stay outside the box and constantly think about new ways to get work done or to live effectively. Make no mistake, thinking outside the box sounds great but is not necessarily easy and requires some application on occasion.
The following will help you think outside of the box and come up with new creative ways to achieve your personal and professional life goals. Here are a number of ways to help do that, read the article here for the full article and references….
How to Think Outside the Box
A topic I have explored much more intensely in recent times, is that of leadership, especially as I have headed up teams for a major event and organisation in my own professional field.
“The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humour, but without folly.” – Jim Rohn.
Incredible leaders come in all shapes and sizes. They have different styles, different goals, different strengths. There are great leaders in clubs, businesses, schools, sports teams, families, politics and non-profit organisations throughout the world.
Effective leaders, and in particular leaders truly worth following tend to have a set of qualities that makes them so. Often these qualities are lacking in others whoa re in leadership roles. Just what is it that makes a leader worth following? Today, I’ve written about some of the qualities of exceptional leaders people want to follow and benefit from following.
Consider being aware of these things if you ever adopt a leadership role in any aspect of your life, full article here…
