- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
Things have been incredibly busy here in recent weeks, I have been teaching and working on new projects that I am excited about sharing in coming weeks.
After a small break since Easter, the podcast is back with a new episode. This latest one features Zayna Ratty talking about her specialist work within the LGBTQIA+, PoC, intersectionality and Alt Lifestyles areas. It makes for a fascinating and illuminating episode.
If you are based in the US & have wanted to train with me, this Summer is your opportunity. I've not taught in the US for a decade and may not do so again for quite a while, so do grab this rare opportunity if you can.... I'll be running my Science of Self-Hypnosis Seminar at the NGH convention in Marlborough, MA in August. More info & booking details here: NGH Convention Workshop with Adam Eason.
I also have a full PDF with more comprehensive details of the workshop that you can read here.
With much of my own energy in future years being on the UK Hypnosis Convention that I run, I am lessening the amount of time I spend teaching overseas, so if you are in the US or nearby and can access the US more easily than here in the UK, come and join me - and after class, lets go and have dinner and geek out about hypnosis together! I plan on making this a very memorable workshop and will be bring my
absolute A game with me.
Got lots of other new stuff to share with you this week this week. Got two new articles; one showing a number of ways you can enjoy and greatly benefit from alone time and another all about how to control overthinking. I'm also sharing a new video that I recorded during a late workshop I offered last weekend - on module 8 of my hypnotherapy diploma, I run a workshop for our delegates about how to set ups and
develop an effective hypnotherapy business and one recurrent theme I cover (and that is at the heart of my own business) is that of learning to swim in blue waters - all is explained in the video. I also have a new evidence-based hypnosis meme for you.
My ultra running training and strength training are all going incredibly well and next week I'll be sharing some very particular photos with you all to show you some of my own progress and as a way of highlighting the importance of mindset when it comes to your own health and well-being.
This week has been mental health awareness week and I have spoken on radio, on podcasts and in real-life groups in my local area this week and I have seen first hand the amount of resource that is available to people; some of which you may not know about. If you or anybody you know is struggling with any kind of mental health challenge, then get in touch with me and I can forward you on links and
resources.
And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because....

How to Enjoy Alone Time... And Stop Overthinking....
|
Enjoy your Alone time, solitude or time spent away from others is my topic today. I was joking in class last weekend about how I love spending time by myself and that I’d enjoy my work so much more if it involved less people. It was a joke and I talk often about the importance of social interaction in our lives, yet I do want to celebrate solitude and time spent alone today….
Some people think of “being alone” or “solitude” as a bad thing. It either means you’re anti-social, or unwanted, neither of which are a good position to be in. Many are also afraid of being alone for any period of time and rarely spend any time in solitude.
Actually, solitude is highly underrated. We rarely sit in a peaceful corner, talking to our inner self, and try to sort the problems of the outside world. Being alone is really healing: We get to sort out things honestly, we don’t have to fake our thoughts, and most importantly, we understand ourselves. Even research shows that chosen solitude contributes to personal growth and self-acceptance. According to
Margarita Azmitia, a professor of psychology at UC Santa Cruz and coauthor of a recent paper in the Journal of Adolescence. “Sometimes, solitude is good. Developmentally, learning to be alone is a skill, and it can be refreshing and restorative.”:...

Also this week.... Let's talk about overthinking....
We all go through periods of overthinking and problematic rumination, some of us for longer than others and it is something I work with in my therapy rooms often as it contributes to a great many problems in life.
The human mind seems to be unable to process a negative, which means it can’t think of something you tell it to forget or ignore.
Ruminating, or letting your mind spin about things isn’t just a case of sleepless nights; research shows that dwelling on your mistakes, real or imagined, is linked to depression, enhances negative thinking, impairs problem solving, interferes with instrumental behaviour, and erodes social support. The implication of this is that overthinking cannot be solved by self-discipline or trying
harder.
This is a hard one for the human intellect to wrap itself around because the intellect typically works in one direction only: more doing and more thinking.
Whatever problem you throw at your intellect; it will often think about it more. Read the full article and the references included here, it'll give a number of ways to stop overthinking and rumination.
