- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
I have indeed been modelling a line of tee-shirts. They are the Hypnosis Geek tee-shirts that I've been wearing while recording videos and my podcasts in the past couple of weeks and you can see a bunch of pictures of me wearing them on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. If you want to join the Hypnosis Geek movement and support the ethos of it, then you can
get your hands on some prime hypnosis geek merch right here: The Hypnosis Geek T-Shirt Collection. The two latest episodes of the Hypnosis weekly podcast has gone live since the last edition of Adam Up went out. Episode 96 featured Sue
Washington who had some hilarious stories to share from her 40 years experience in the field of hypnosis, in particular her tale about sleeping on a train in Sweden with original author of the famed Hartlands hypnosis text book Jon Hartland. In this episode there were a couple of cameo speaking parts for a random couple of members of the public too, you might be intrigued to here what they had to say.
Hypnosis Weekly Episode 96 - With Sue Washington.
Episode 97 went live just today and features Alexia Elliott. Her and I discuss all things hypnosis, but we also discuss some very different topics that have not featured in a previous episode - in particular the subject of
Shamanism. I also talk a bit about my own earlier life experiences and exploration of Shamanism which may surprise some of you to hear about, tune in here....
Hypnosis Weekly episode 97 - With Alexia Elliott.
I am away with my family for half term next week and the
following week I will be at the UK Hypnosis Convention, so there won't be an episode of Hypnosis Weekly for about 3 weeks, so make the most of these two editions for now. Also this week, I have a new video about how to make sure the evidence you cite about hypnotherapy is good quality research and information and you don't
make lazy, false claims.
I've also got new articles about alleviating resentment and being more productive by reducing distractions. .
I've got a bunch of other stuff too (including notifications about upcoming events), a fresh evidence based hypnosis meme of the week (incredible one
about migraines), and a joke or two along the way..... And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive
it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it. Also, we delete you from our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
In compliance with GDPR, the only information that we hold is your name and email address. We will not share these details with anyone and we will only use them to send you this and related, relevant broadcasts. This broadcast is only sent to people who have signed up with our double opt-in

Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?
New Video: Are You Effectively Evaluating Your Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis Information Before Making Claims?
|
I have a new video over at the Hypnosis Geek YouTube channel.
Those who are familiar with this college and I know that these days I tend to champion an evidence based approach to hypnosis and
hypnotherapy, you regular readers and viewers know that much.
As a result, I find that people who disagree with what I have to say on my podcast, on my videos or on my blogs start to quote research back to me… And man oh man, you should see some of the research that some people use to back up their own stance on a subject.
So I thought I would offer up today, the kind of method of evaluating research that my own study adheres to and hope it helps to ensure that I get less people
telling me that their stance is qualified – because here is a study conducted by John the past life regression therapist on two of his friends after a few beers one night using binaural beats music and he wrote up the results!
I am kidding about that, and exaggerating in an unfair way to get my own point across… You knew that also though, didn’t you?
When looking at any piece of information, article, research finding or anything that relates to hypnosis or hypnotherapy, why not use
this simple ‘PROMPT’ structured approach to critically evaluate that information. PROMPT, in this context, stands for: Provenance, Relevance, Objectivity, Method, Presentation, and Timeliness. The video explains the rest, I hope you find it useful and beneficial, let me know your thoughts, enjoy….

The Hypnosis Geek Tour Is Coming to an End
|
My two one day seminars have been run all across the UK this year, my final two locations here in the UK this year are Cardiff on the 27th and 28th of October and London on the 1st of November (just the one day seminar there, at
the UK Hypnosis Convention) if you want to find out dates, fees (less than £100.00), venues and more detail about the seminars, then take a look at these pages because for the next couple of years, I'll only be able to run these seminars once a year here in Bournemouth:
a) Rapid Inductions and Hypnotic Phenomena Seminar.
b) Science of Self-Hypnosis Seminar. =====Interested in learning self-hypnosis? Want to get proof of your own self-hypnosis skills and create hypnotic phenomena by yourself, for yourself? Don’t know where to start?
Here’s your answer….
I get asked so often by so many people about the best way to learn self-hypnosis and to get some kind of evidence that they are doing it
correctly. I usually reply to say that the single best way to know you are doing self-hypnosis correctly is to give yourself real-life evidence – by creating hypnotic phenomena.
What do I mean by “hypnotic Phenomena”?
This is our effect. The effect that we are going to create. With stage hypnotists, they create effects of people believing they are someone else, for example. With hypnotherapists they create effects of being free of habits, for example. With street
hypnotists, they create the effect of someone believing their foot is stuck to the floor, for example. Within this self-hypnosis roadmap, you are going to create an effect that is going to be undeniably convincing to you that you are using self-hypnosis well.
This roadmap teaches you how to adopt the hypnotic mindset, how to induce self-hypnosis, how to absorb yourself profoundly in self-hypnosis, how to create your own incredible hypnotic phenomena, and then how to exit self-hypnosis and
develop your skills with it. I think you are going to love this. To get the roadmap and guide sent through to your inbox straight away, just visit this page on my college website:
A FREE
Self-Hypnosis Roadmap – Learn How To Create Your Own Hypnotic Phenomena. Go download this, you are going to have a lot of fun with it, believe me. Enjoy engaging with self-hypnosis, most importantly, enjoy creating real-life undeniable hypnotic phenomena for yourself – it's going to blow your mind.
Are You Considering Training To Be A Hypnotherapist?
Then I have something very cool indeed for you.
For anyone considering training in the field of hypnotherapy, looking to train to be a hypnotherapist, I have put together a roadmap; a
guide to help you do that. Whether you come and train with me here at this college or go somewhere else, this roadmap and guide will offer you a real direction of how to identify the best way to train as a hypnotherapist.
Even more importantly though, it contains a HUGE amount of free resources for you to use and learn from. To download it, just visit this page and you’ll be sent through the Roadmap. For free, with my compliments. I have crammed it full of information, advice, guidance and it includes a mass of free resources that I wished I had been given when I first looked at training to be a hypnotherapist:
This Week's Main Articles: Being more productive with less distraction.... and Controlling and Alleviating Anger and Resentment
|
First up,Distraction is a major problem for
many.
“Distraction is a killer of dreams, visions and goals.” – Topsy Gift.
As I write this, my phone is on silent, my email access is off, the other windows and possible sources of notifications are closed and my doors are shut. Freeing myself of distraction is at the heart of me
being productive. One of the cornerstones of being successful is managing distractions to get the important stuff done without being distracted or diverted before you have finished. It is easy to become distracted by endless little things that prevent you from doing the one big thing you should really be doing or that is going to contribute to your most important goals. The challenges arise in the form of
multiple items on both your work and personal ‘to do lists’ which compete with each other and the endless potential distractions for such a limited amount of time.
There has been some recent research, which reveals that we are all distracted more often than we think and that distraction comes at great cost to your productivity.
Gloria Mark, Professor in the Department of Informatics at the
University of California found that a typical office employee works for only 11 minutes between each interruption and then takes an average of 25 minutes to return to the original task after the interruption.
In another study, Alessandro Acquisti, Professor of Information Technology at Carnegie Mellon measured the brainpower lost when someone is interrupted through a phone call or email. They performed cognitive skill tests, which demonstrated that once interrupted individuals performed
at 20% lower effectiveness on their original task than those without interruptions.
More Research by Professor Larry D Rosen, Professor Emeritus and Past Chair of the Psychology Department at California State University found that those students who stayed focused for longer were more successful in their studies with the amazing revelation that if they checked Facebook just once during the 15-minute
study period they performed at a lower level than those that did not. Interviews with the students revealed their thought process, in that they felt compelled to either respond to a Facebook alert or if not they lost concentration anyway by diverting their thinking to wondering what was in the alert. Either way, it was a distraction that affected their productivity.
So it is clear that being distracted
takes up time during the distraction, and afterward, to get back on track with your original task. Even then, your productivity and quality of work will be materially lower than had you not been distracted at all.
If you want to stay focused and take charge of your day, there are ten things that can help you focus and stay on track. Go and read this article in full to discover and apply these methods
and have links to all the science and references....
Secondly....
Resentment is something that gets us into so much trouble and for many, especially when it triggers anger, it seems uncontrollable.
Many of us have experienced hard feelings toward others when we fall out with people in our lives. This could happen when someone you worked
for fires you, a spouse has cheated on you, or someone close to you is talking behind your back. It is human nature to feel resentment from these experiences, but it is temporary and just a fraction of what damage it causes to us when we hold resentment against those that wronged us. Anger is like an emotional cancer. It can grow and negatively affect the balance of the mind and body. This, in turn, can cause
major issues if not addressed in time.
When you are holding onto resentment toward someone, you may feel angry and anxious. It is very hard to get restful sleep when these negative emotions are consuming your mind and the problematic bi-products are varying.
To let go of resentment, here are some things you
can do (clue: venting anger is not recommended and neither is suppressing it. What does the neuroscience recommend we do instead? Read on) just read the article in full, follow the steps and look at the research supporting the points made....
This week, my social media output has been filled with memes about hypnosis, photos from my life (including loads from my travels and teaching events) and loads of articles from our vaults (including some really controversial
ones from the past few years!!) and some other bits and pieces.
You can follow and keep up to date here:
Additionally, if you are a student,
graduate or friend of my college, then come & join our Facebook group for hypnotherapists, it has some wonderful discussion on there:
I'm completely booked up with regards to being able to take on any new clients for hypnotherapy, mentoring or coaching currently, so have removed those links from Adam Up for a few weeks.

you interested in finding out a bit more about working or studying with me, here are the pages to go and do that:

information even if you do not choose to study with me, they’ll benefit you greatly:
A magician was working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The audience was different each week so he did same tricks over and over.
The problem was, the captain's parrot saw all the shows and began to understand how
the magician did every trick.
He started shouting in the middle of the show: 'Look, it's not the same hat. Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table. Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?' The magician was furious but, as it was the captain's parrot, he could do nothing.
Then one day the ship sank and the magician found himself floating on a piece of wood with the parrot.
They glared at each other but said nothing. Finally, after a week, the parrot
said: 'OK, I give up. Where's the boat?' Hahahaha, love that one..... Thanks to all who continue to send them in to me and tag me online with jokes each week. |
