- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
This week's Adam Up is going out on a Friday during the day for the first time ever, because I am closing the office in two minutes and won't be back for a couple of weeks. I'm taking some time out and having a holiday with my family. There'll be no Adam Up for the next two weeks, but I'll return with it at the end of the month.
I have a couple
of new videos for you today - you regular viewers might enjoy a change from the usual filming spot in my office. I'm talking all things geek from my Vee-Dub van in one video, and talking about the dangers of treading water while filming at the beach in another.
I'll also be sharing science based articles and information about how to keep your mind sharp as you get older and how to make new friendships - and explaining why you'd want to do either.
I've got a bunch of other stuff too (including notifications about upcoming courses), a fresh evidence based hypnosis meme of the week (incredible one about blood transfusions this week), and a joke or two along the way..... And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some
point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it. Also, we delete you from our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
In compliance with GDPR, the only information that we hold is your name and email address. We will not
share these details with anyone and we will only use them to send you this and related, relevant broadcasts. This broadcast is only sent to people who have signed up with our double opt-in system.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?
Video From My Vee Dub Van: Why Being a Geek is So Awesome!
|
I recorded this clip from my beloved Vee Dub T5 van (the other member of my family) for a very particular reason, it is a geek
haven for me as I explain in the video… In this video I talk about why being a geek is so awesome, and how it’ll help you thrive massively as a hypnotherapist if you adopt the geek mindset.
In this video I talk geek. If I were to take some of the official dictionary definition of ‘geek’ and
tweek it a little bit to contextualise this video… Definition of hypnosis geek.
noun: hypnosis geek; plural noun: hypnosis geeks (like those who listen to my podcasts, train with my college and come to my
hypnosis geek dinners)
1. A knowledgeable and obsessive enthusiast. “a computer geek” “a hypnosis geek”
verb: geek; 3rd person present: geeks; past tense: geeked; past participle: geeked; present participle: geeking
2. Someone who will – engage in or discuss hypnosis-related tasks obsessively or with great attention to technical and theoretical detail. – be or become extremely
excited or enthusiastic about a subject, typically one of specialist or minority interest.
“I am totally geeking out over this meta-analysis detailing the efficacy of hypnosis as a means of treating dyslexia.“
I like hypnosis geeks, and consider myself to be one. I am incredibly technical and derive great joy from the theoretical and academic debate of my subject. I lecture on the detailed workings of hypnosis, have written very evidence based books on the subject, I research hypnosis, I have a hypnosis podcast, I write a hypnosis blog, I read academic papers on the subject and know the research supporting this field very well indeed, but importantly, I get excited about it, I love
what can be done with hypnosis. I think that qualifies me to be a self-titled hypnosis geek. Here is what I have to say about it and I explain how it’ll advance your abilities, skill and business as a hypnotherapist….

Keep Your Mind Sharp: How To Do So...
|
Keep your mind sharp is the message today.
“Have an open mind – allow different ideas into your way of thinking.” – Peter
Diamandis.
Certainly, we are all familiar with the fact that to remain in good physical health, it is important to exercise and eat our five (or ten) a day when it comes to fruit
and vegetables. Even if the science behind the exact number remains debatable, no one can deny that eating properly is one requirement for maintaining good health. People tend to have a really good awareness of that regardless of whether they actually take the advice and act upon it or not.
What about the mind? Are there some dos and don’ts you should abide by so as to keep your mind sharp and healthy? The answer that many scientists would give to that is a positive one. I thought I’d share here today a number of ways that science tends to suggest are good ways to keep your mind sharp.
Keeping your Mind Active: The first way to keep your mind sharp, is for it to be active – as if you are exercising it. There are many ways to decrease the rate at which the brain degenerates as one ages by keeping it active; reading,
studying, solving puzzles, taking part in games of all kinds, being creative, the list goes on.
Lots of these are covered in the upcoming points. I list a lot of
science-based approaches to keeping your mind sharp, something important as we get older for a wide number of reasons; reasons that I also explain in this article. Read it here for the full references, science and all the approaches recommended.....
Video at the Beach: Why It Is Dangerous for Hypnotherapists to Tread Water:
|
I filmed this video walking down to the beach for my morning run today. It seemed pertinent to do so as I am talking about the perils of treading water. The
clip is a bit wobbly as I walk down to the beach but it levels out when I arrive on the sand on the sea front and make my most important points (even if I am squinting at the very bright morning sunshine). Watch the video and grasp the message – refuse to tread water in life, but especially as a hypnotherapist! Enjoy….
At the video page, I also include a number of relevant references and other articles that support the topics I discuss here. =====Interested in learning self-hypnosis? Want to
get proof of your own self-hypnosis skills and create hypnotic phenomena by yourself, for yourself? Don’t know where to start?
Here’s your answer….
I get asked so often by so many people about the best way to learn self-hypnosis and to get some kind of evidence that they are doing it correctly. I usually reply to say that the single best way to know you are doing self-hypnosis correctly is to give yourself real-life evidence – by creating hypnotic
phenomena.
What do I mean by “hypnotic Phenomena”?
This is our effect. The effect that we are going to create. With stage hypnotists, they create effects of people believing they are someone else, for example. With hypnotherapists they create effects of being free of habits, for example. With street hypnotists, they create the effect of someone believing their foot is stuck to the floor, for example. Within this self-hypnosis roadmap, you are going to create an
effect that is going to be undeniably convincing to you that you are using self-hypnosis well.
This roadmap teaches you how to adopt the hypnotic mindset, how to induce self-hypnosis, how to absorb yourself profoundly in self-hypnosis, how to create your own incredible hypnotic phenomena, and then how to exit self-hypnosis and develop your skills with it. I think you are going to love this. To get the roadmap and guide sent through to your inbox straight away, just visit this page on my
college website:
A FREE Self-Hypnosis Roadmap – Learn How To Create Your Own Hypnotic Phenomena. Go download this, you are going to have a lot of fun with it, believe me. Enjoy engaging with self-hypnosis, most importantly, enjoy creating real-life undeniable hypnotic phenomena for yourself – it's going to blow your mind.

Friendship: It’s Importance and How To Make New Friends as an Adult
|
“Friendship is a relationship with no strings attached except the ones you choose to tie, one that’s just about being there, as best
as you can.”
You now need to imagine that the famous Friends TV show theme tune by the Rembrandts has started playing…. “So no-one told you life was gonna be this waaaay…..”
Today then, we’re talking about having
lots more BFFs, even though we may not call them that when we hit our mid 40s and upwards….. As adults, we need to make an extra effort to make friends. Up until we’re in our early to mid 20s or so, friends were just thrown at us in school or in extracurricular activities.
It’s different as adults because you have
to put in some actual work or make an effort. The beauty being that you also get a lot more choice and freedom in making friends.
It can be a bitter pill to swallow to realise that an established friendship is simply someone who has been in our life for years, but we actually don’t really enjoy the friendship or even want to be friends with them. If all our friends were made out of forced situations, like family, school, or work, instead of genuine similarities, then maybe we need to find new, fulfilling friendships.
Why bother though? What are the benefits of friendship?
Friends raise your spirits and comfort you in times of need: Friends can become an important backbone, a
powerful support. They are the people who will celebrate with you and help you enjoy your successes. They also listen, advise and support if you hit a rough patch, helping you back onto your feet. True friends are there for you, no matter what.
Friendships develop your social skills: Most people that
meet me tend to think I am an extrovert because of my behaviour and manner in public circumstances. Yet it takes a lot of effort for me to get there in the first place and the prospect of social events often makes me anxious and uneasy. I am much more introverted than people realise and without friendships that nudge me and push me out of my comfort zone, and also assist me in feeling more resilient and safe in my own skin. Friends offer us great opportunities to socialise and get out into the
world to experience stimulating places and people, and we develop our social skills as a result.
Quality friendships help you tune into reality FM: If someone needs to hear some truth, friends are well-placed to offer up a reality check. If that friend has been inappropriate, needs to recognise
something in themselves or others, true friends can offer that harsh truth because it is offered from a caring place in their heart. Friends will be honest even with sensitive issues. Friendships with other couples can help your own relationship: With emergence of social media, many people create idealised or fantastical ideas about romantic relationships; spending time with other couples
can help you see other relationships in reality. Likewise, going through major life transitions together can give you insight, support and understanding too – marriage, raising children, balancing work/life commitments to maintain relationships are all areas that you can be helped with as a result of sharing such experiences within friendships. Certainly, I learn so much from my friends who are parents who reassure me, support me and guide in so many ways.
Importantly, friendships improve our health and advance longevity: Studies demonstrate that older people with quality friendships typically tend to live longer, healthier happier lives than those without. Having a close knit family circle can offer similar benefits in other ways, but usually becoming a caregiver is more of an obligation, whereas good quality friendships provide heightened joy and fulfilment with less of
the strings attached.
Go and read the rest of this article for ways on how to meet new people and establish quality friendships, and get links to all the scientific references and related articles, enjoy:

This week I have some one-liners that are in keeping with the theme of friendship....
- TRUE FRIENDSHIP: Walking into a persons
house and your wifi connects automatically.
- Let me make this simple, I want to be invited but I don't want to go.
- A mate said he saw several elderly men repairing shoes in the back of a van. I reckon it's a load of old cobblers.
- I'm changing my name to 'Benefits' on Facebook. Next time someone adds me, It will say "you are now friends with Benefits."
- My buddy set me up on a blind date & said, "Heads up, she's expecting a baby." Felt like an idiot sitting in the bar wearing just a nappy.
- I recently
heard about a mannequin that lost all of his friends because he was so clothes minded!
- My friends laughed at me when I told them I had a hot date and they said she was imaginary. Well the joke's on them – they're imaginary too.
Hahahaha, enjoyed those..... Thanks to all who continue to send them in to me and tag me online with jokes each week. |
