- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
There was no Adam Up last week as I was teaching my advanced hypnotherapy diploma all week (which led to me virtually losing my voice with a cough and sore throat this week) and did not have much to share with you anyway. This week I have a bumper issue to make up for it.
I start with some incredibly sad news that has broken my heart and that
inspired me to create a major new annual event here at the college.
Also, I have new video that is asking more serious questions about much of the myth and misinformation spread by some hypnotherapists about techniques they have created and marketed loudly. Today there's also an archive audio of an interview I did with a majorly well-known hypnosis trainer a couple of years ago that I think you'll really enjoy.
I'm also sharing a new article that focuses upon taking responsibility for your own life, and I am recommending that everyone should read more too.
I've got a bunch of other stuff too (including notifications about upcoming courses), a fresh evidence based hypnosis meme of the week (this week's has potential anti-ageing effects!), and a joke or two along the
way..... And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive it each week if you find it of value and you
actually read it. Also, we delete you from our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
In compliance with GDPR, the only information that we hold is your name and email address. We will not share these details with anyone and we will only use them to send you this and related, relevant broadcasts. This broadcast is only sent to people who have signed up with our double opt-in
system.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?
Sad News and An Important Announcement
|
The 19th of December this year will be the inaugural ‘Heather Clark Memorial Lecture’ preceding our annual Christmas party.
Heather was a friend of mine and a graduate of this college who led an inspiring life. Having been
born without limbs as a result of her mother taking the thalidomide drug when pregnant with Heather, she defied perceived limitations. Despite the odds, she rode horses, worked in the media, travelled the world and was a hypnotherapist and coach who I feel honoured to say trained with me at my college.
The last time I saw Heather in real-life was at our Christmas lecture and party last
year.
Heather sadly lost her battle with cancer in recent weeks and this annual event will raise money for charity, starting with one close to Heather’s heart (Ovacome – ovarian cancer awareness charity).
Heather really personified much of the ethos of this college and it really makes me
proud that her name and incredible spirit will be used to reflect this event in years to come.
I have secured two academics who are coming to present lectures late afternoon about their hypnosis research. I assure you it will be a couple of hours and a few pounds very well invested. The lectures and speakers are as follows:
1. The contribution of frontal lobe functions to hypnotic and placebo analgesia. Alethea Guestini, Postgraduate Research Student, Bournemouth University and Mental Health Administrator, NHS
2. Advances in intrinsic hypnosis research and theory. Dr Ben Parris, Head of Research and Principal Lecturer in Psychology, University of Bournemouth
The aim of these lectures is to consider recent advances in our understanding of hypnosis and suggestion with the wider
aim of promoting understanding of the efficacy of hypnosis and suggestion in a variety of contexts. The event aims to discuss recent findings in hypnosis research and know how hypnosis and placebo effects relate to each other.
We have limited spaces available just as we did for our Christmas lecture last year, and the fee for joining us is £10.00, all of which will go to charity.
This
year, all funds will go to Ovacome, an Ovarian cancer charity that Heather was raising awareness of and helping raise funds for herself. We are hoping to present the funds on the night.
The Importance of Reading & A Free Audio About My Beginning in the Hypnotherapy Field.
|
Reading is important, but you know that already, don’t you? What about the importance of reading more than you actually do currently though?
I wrote this
article this during breaks in proceedings while running my advanced hypnotherapy practitioner diploma for qualified hypnotherapists. I am surprised at how rare it is for hypnotherapists (or anyone else for that matter) to be encouraged to read more – it would benefit them and their clients so much if they did so.
“The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.” – Mark Twain.
Nowadays reading is increasingly less of a habit or pastime that individuals engage in, especially given the introduction and emergence of various social media channels and sources. People spend a lot of time on social media scrolling through content which occupies them, but does not necessarily help them in any way to advance in life and some might even say that they waste a large share of
their time, energy and focus just distracting themselves with the banal and ultimately making it harder for themselves to invest time in reading.
Here then, I’m writing about why it is so important to read more, and I've included a range of scientific studies to support these reasons, and the ways in which regular
book reading creates such a massive influence upon everything I do each week - so go and have a read of this article, and I hope it gets you reading more books as a result, you and the world will benefit greatly from you doing so....

Importance of Reading More: Why You Need To Read More.

We are currently in the process of completely revamping our membership area. It is going to be much more user-friendly and ready for lots of new training course footage in coming months. We’ve not been probing it massively in recent weeks while the changes are being made, but then it’ll be something we’ll be mentioning a lot more.
It’ll mean a couple of bits that I offer at the moment to prospective students
will not be available either, so I thought you might quite like this access to some audio footage….
Early in 2016, I was interviewed by one of my leading professional peers (the titan of the conversational hypnosis world, Igor Ledochowski) for a small online masterclass that the two of us delivered together. I give access to this part of that masterclass to prospective students to give them a deeper understanding about me and my beginnings in the hypnotherapy field.
For a
limited time, I want to give you access to the first of that series of 3 recordings because in it, I give a candid account of how I began my own successful career in this field and how I went on to become the figure that I am in the hypnotherapy field today. It’ll be a few minutes of your time well invested. You’ll get to hear from me and about me right from the off and will give you a sense of what I am like as a tutor and as a person, and I think it gives some really useful
information about how to set about having a good career in this field.

My latest video.... Are You A Hypnotherapist Offering Hope Without Substance?
|
Something that I find really irritating and have a healthy level of annoyance about in the hypnotherapy field is the amount of techniques that have been created by hypnotherapists who then go on to market them loudly and sell them enthusiastically
and they are then used religiously by hypnotherapists despite it having no evidence to support it at all. The rationale for it’s use tends to be that a Facebook group dedicated to the marketing of that technique has offered up endless positivity and successful accounts of it’s application.
What gets ignored is that perhaps the enthusiasm of the hypnotherapist, the belief in the process is the only thing that is making it work – along with the hope and expectation that it creates in the
client. Which seems harmless at first, but when you look deeper can create problems for the client and the field in general.
In this video I discus extra-therapeutic factors that contribute to change, “regression towards the mean”, and the prevalence of hypnotherapists using techniques and processes that have no evidence to support them but are incredibly popular and marketed loudly.
Plus I snuck in one of my favourite Star Wars quotes….. Watch the full video here: Are You A Hypnotherapist Offering Hope Without Substance? =====
Interested in learning self-hypnosis? Want to get proof of your own self-hypnosis skills and create hypnotic phenomena by yourself, for yourself? Don’t know where to start?
Here’s your answer….
I get asked so often by so many people about the best way to learn self-hypnosis and to get some kind of evidence that they are doing it
correctly. I usually reply to say that the single best way to know you are doing self-hypnosis correctly is to give yourself real-life evidence – by creating hypnotic phenomena.
What do I mean by “hypnotic Phenomena”?
This is our effect. The effect that we are going to create. With stage hypnotists, they create effects of people believing they are someone else, for example. With hypnotherapists they create effects of being free of habits, for example. With street
hypnotists, they create the effect of someone believing their foot is stuck to the floor, for example. Within this self-hypnosis roadmap, you are going to create an effect that is going to be undeniably convincing to you that you are using self-hypnosis well.
This roadmap teaches you how to adopt the hypnotic mindset, how to induce self-hypnosis, how to absorb yourself profoundly in self-hypnosis, how to create your own incredible hypnotic phenomena, and then how to exit self-hypnosis and
develop your skills with it. I think you are going to love this. To get the roadmap and guide sent through to your inbox straight away, just visit this page on my college website:
A FREE
Self-Hypnosis Roadmap – Learn How To Create Your Own Hypnotic Phenomena. Go download this, you are going to have a lot of fun with it, believe me. Enjoy engaging with self-hypnosis, most importantly, enjoy creating real-life undeniable hypnotic phenomena for yourself – it's going to blow your mind.

This Week's Main Article: Take Responsibility For Your Life
|
Take responsibility of your life – that is the message and the aim of this article.
“The price of greatness is responsibility.” – Winston Churchill.
The word responsible comes from two words: response and able. Seems obvious. Therefore, being responsible for your life means that while you can’t control every situation in your life, you are always able to control how you respond to them. This fact
doesn’t change because of the nature of the circumstance and how difficult it may be. This is a significant distinction though. One that warrants you to take stock of the upside of taking responsibility for your life.
When You Take Responsibility for Your Life, It Puts You in The Driver Seat:
Like all of us, your life has not been perfect. You have experienced disappointments, setbacks and adversity of some kind, everyone has. How you respond to that adversity is largely in your own hands. Do you choose to wallow in self-pity and major in the blame game, for example?
Accepting full responsibility for your life puts you in the driver seat of how your life unfolds. Constant complaining about the state of any aspect of your life serves little valuable or positive purpose. More often complaining diminishes the amount of positive emotional energy that you exhibit towards taking meaningful actions that can change your situation.
No amount of life hacks can entirely erase
the process it takes for you to get from where you are to where you want to be. Sure, there are tips, principles and strategic plans that can help you reduce the amount of time it took someone else to accomplish similar dreams and goals, but they can’t erase the fact that success is a process of quality decisions and purpose driven actions implemented consistently over a period of time. This is a fact of life. Any denial of this truth on your part will not alter
it.
Sitting up and choosing to take responsibility is the first step and the mindset that helps you make that choice, is what will also make your life so much better as a result.
Whatever you want to advance, enhance or expand in your life; your relationships, your career, your business, your friendships,
your education, living a healthier lifestyle, they all require that you accept responsibility for your present state and engage the most effective process of actions that will help you create and engineer your desired reality....
Go and read the full article with references and deeper information about how and why you'll benefit from taking responsibility for your own life - even if you think you are already.....
This week, my social media output has been filled with memes about hypnosis, photos from my life (including some pics from class) and loads of articles from our vaults (including some really controversial ones from the past few
years!!) and some other bits and pieces.

On the subject of reading more, I have jokes to make fellow reading addicts snigger this week....
1. Yesterday a book fell on my head.... Well, I only have my shelf to blame.
2. The past, present
and future walked into a bar.... It was tense.
3. Why did Shakespeare write with ink? Because he couldn't decide which pencil to use... 2B or not 2B.
4. I have been reading abook about anti-gravity.... I just cannot put it down.
5. Why do writers always feel cold? Because they are surrounded by drafts.
Hahaha, I enjoyed those. Thanks to all who continue to send them in to me and tag me online with jokes each week. |
