- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
This week's Adam Up is going out on a Friday night for the first time ever, and with me teaching in Hull next week, there'll be no edition next week, so you have a break from me for a while.
What a Summer we are having here in the UK. Non stop sunshine. No rain. Everything is yellow instead of green! My kids have just broken up for the Summer
holidays, and so as we prepare for our family Summer holiday in a couple of weeks time, I am writing about how to make the most out of your holiday in today's edition.
I have a number of new videos for you today - one is about people who are incompetent but don't know they are incompetent - though the video is aimed at them, they won't realise it is aimed at them - so yes indeed, I'm talking about the Dunning-Kruger effect in one of my videos. I've also recorded a video based upon
something I spoke about during the gala dinner at last year's UK Hypnosis Convention - Plato's allegory of 'The Cave' and explain why it is relevant to hypnotherapists, and I've also got a video that explains why prominent hypnotherapists and hypnotherapy training schools need to be able to take criticism and stop being so defensive in response.
I've got a bunch of other stuff too (including
notifications about upcoming courses), a fresh evidence based hypnosis meme of the week (incredible one about blood transfusions this week), and a joke or two along the way..... And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and
personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it. Also, we delete you from our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
In compliance with GDPR, the only information that we hold is your name and email address. We will not share these details with anyone and
we will only use them to send you this and related, relevant broadcasts. This broadcast is only sent to people who have signed up with our double opt-in system.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?
Why I Think Plato’s Allegory of ‘The Cave’ Is Beneficial For All Hypnotherapists To Know About:
|
I’m talking about Plato’s Allegory of ‘The Cave’ here in my latest video. Last year at the UK Hypnosis Convention, I spoke briefly
about the importance of philosophical reasoning at the Gala Dinner. It may seem a little bit unusual to reference such a topic during a convention dedicated to hypnosis and hypnotherapy, but such reasoning is something I believe is important if the field of hypnotherapy is to move forward, and so I thought I’d explain that in a bit more detail here. Enjoy….
Singing Like The Ghost of Sinatra: The Dunning-Kruger Effect
|
This video is entitled: Why Some Incompetent Hypnotherapists Don’t Know They’re Incompetent
I recognise that the title to this video may initially seem a tad provocative, but it is gentler than it’s billing when you get to the crux of the clip and understand my reasoning behind it, which as ever, is
to drive the hypnotherapy field forwards.
In this video I explain how I sing like the ghost of Sinatra, and it includes a picture of me doing just that at a recent karaoke event celebrating the end of term with my most recent diploma course students.... However, many others overestimate their own singing ability
and I cite a couple of famous such cases…. I then go on to talk about the Dunning-Kruger effect and it’s existence in the hypnotherapy field and importantly, how anyone can overcome illusory superiority and help move the hypnotherapy field forward. Watch it here…..
Why The Hypnotherapy Field Needs To Know How To Take Criticism and Stop Being Defensive:
|
At the video page, I also include a number of relevant references and other articles that support the topics I discuss here. =====Interested in learning self-hypnosis? Want to get proof of your own self-hypnosis skills and create hypnotic phenomena by yourself, for yourself? Don’t know where to start?
Here’s your answer….
I get asked so often by so many people about the best way to learn self-hypnosis and to get some kind of
evidence that they are doing it correctly. I usually reply to say that the single best way to know you are doing self-hypnosis correctly is to give yourself real-life evidence – by creating hypnotic phenomena.
What do I mean by “hypnotic Phenomena”?
This is our effect. The effect that we are going to create. With stage hypnotists, they create effects of people believing they are someone else, for example. With hypnotherapists they create effects of being free of
habits, for example. With street hypnotists, they create the effect of someone believing their foot is stuck to the floor, for example. Within this self-hypnosis roadmap, you are going to create an effect that is going to be undeniably convincing to you that you are using self-hypnosis well.
This roadmap teaches you how to adopt the hypnotic mindset, how to induce self-hypnosis, how to absorb yourself profoundly in self-hypnosis, how to create your own incredible hypnotic phenomena, and
then how to exit self-hypnosis and develop your skills with it. I think you are going to love this. To get the roadmap and guide sent through to your inbox straight away, just visit this page on my college website:
A FREE Self-Hypnosis Roadmap – Learn How To Create Your Own Hypnotic Phenomena. Go download this, you are going to have a lot of fun with it, believe me. Enjoy engaging with self-hypnosis, most importantly, enjoy creating real-life undeniable hypnotic phenomena for yourself – it's going to blow your mind.

This Week's Main Article: How To Make the Most of Your Holiday
|
“The breaks you take from work pay you back manifold when you return because you come back with a fresher mind and newer thinking. Some of your best ideas come when you’re on vacation.” – Gautam Singhania.
Whilst
many of us recognise the need and the reasons for taking a holiday, today I wanted to write about something I think we recognise less; how to really make sure that you derive the most amount of benefit from your holiday. In today’s connected world where we are constantly being overloaded with information and stimulus from so many differing sources, it’s easy to forget about the most fundamental means of improving your holiday experience. You don’t necessarily need a smartphone or a computer to
positively change the way you experience a holiday. Here are some tips and ideas for slowing down, savouring and making the most of a holiday.
For the full references, supporting research and links to related articles, go and have a read here, you and all who you holiday with this year will be delighted you did so....

I have some holiday related jokes for you this week....
- I wanted to sue the airline because they damaged my luggage. I showed the badly damaged remains to my lawyer. He said, "You don't have much of a case."
- My wife's going on a vacation to 'get a break from my constant jealousy'. I wish I was going on a vacation...
- I once
went on an 18-30 holiday, which was fun, but 12yrs is just too long.
- A young guy turns up at a hotel reception: "I'd like a single room, please." "Certainly, sir," says the receptionist. "With bath or shower?" The guy is a bit short of cash, so he asks, "What's the difference?" "You have to stand in the shower," says the receptionist. I know "Groan!" Thanks to all who continue to send them in to me and tag me online with jokes each week.
