- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
What a roller coaster ride it has been in recent weeks as an England football fan watching the World Cup... This week's evidence based meme is a tongue-in-cheek version of my usual hypnosis meme that I put together yesterday morning prior to our semi-final loss, and you may have seen a couple of other pictures I posted on social media that were related to the
football....
We have a rejuvenated sense of pride in our national team here and so it seems natural to be writing about how to be proud of yourself this week. On top of that, I also write about how to be an independent thinker, something extremely close to my heart and sits as a central tenet within the way I run my business.
Also, I have a couple of new videos, one asking if you actually are Dr Who's nemesis, you'll see what I mean when you get to
it.... The other two are partially related and aimed at hypnotherapists and hypnosis professionals and are all about having love for these fields and I give advice about how to have longevity of career in this field, at least according to me.....
I've got a bunch of other stuff too (including notifications about upcoming courses), a fresh evidence based hypnosis meme of the week (as I already said,
this week's is a bit of fun), and a joke or two along the way..... And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you
to receive it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it. Also, we delete you from our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
In compliance with GDPR, the only information that we hold is your name and email address. We will not share these details with anyone and we will only use them to send you this and related, relevant broadcasts. This broadcast is only sent to people
who have signed up with our double opt-in system.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?
Are You Dr Who's Nemesis?
|
Following on from a previous video I shared here, where I discussed the amount of hypnotherapists referring to themselves as “world-renowned” I thought I’d also record a clip about those in the field who refer to themselves
as a 'master' hypnotherapist or 'master' NLP practitioner…. Is it ethical, accurate, honest or warranted? And when we call ourselves a master, what do we actually mean?
I also managed to sneak in some lyrics from a favourite 1980s rap tune of mine!
Independent Thinking: How to be an Independent Thinker
|
Being an independent thinker is taking control of your thoughts, feeling free and stimulated. It is owning your thinking.
“Responsibility to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you; it means learning to respect and use your own brains and instincts; hence, grappling with hard work.” – Adrienne Rich.
Our brain is wired to create short cuts and simplify
things for survival, but it isn’t necessarily a reason for us to stop trying to think differently and alter our patterns of behaviour. Recent studies and insights into neuroplasticity indicate we can change this hard wiring over time.
The issue for individuals is that comfort and repeatability can stifle innovation, creativity and critical thinking. This does not lead to being an independent thinker.
Being an independent thinker is being an innovator and regularly thinking outside the box, but is not necessarily just about coming up with one great idea and selling the idea. It is also about those incremental things we can change or do differently on a daily basis that have longer term impacts. It is also about consciously not putting up with the same old way of doing things; it is about
looking at what you do from many different perspectives; and it’s about breaking the old habits. That is being an independent thinker.
Why is being an independent thinker so important?
If you don’t think for yourself, others just might try and do it for you! There are plenty of people out there who will
happily tell you what to think, who want to direct and control you, and make decisions for you. Just examine your social media newsfeeds.
If you’re not thinking for yourself, then you might also not be speaking for yourself – so others might step in and speak for you or interpret you in a way you didn’t intend.
And if you’re neither thinking for yourself nor sharing your unique thinking then you’re probably not contributing the value you could, living up to your potential nor are
you likely to feel fully satisfied or engaged or like you are being the fullest possible expression of yourself. And when you don’t have a voice, others can assume you don’t matter.
Being an independent thinker isn’t always easy because it can involve taking risks, such as being unpopular, going against the majority,
or being viewed as different or uncooperative. It can feel selfish.
And in some cases, people avoid thinking, or they just keep quiet because they’ve developed a kind of learned helplessness – becoming so used to being told what to think or do that they no longer know how to do it for themselves.
Here
are some ways to help you think differently and become more of an independent thinker. Go and read the full article for instruction on how to be an independent thinker and links to a wide range of supporting references.

My latest videos: For the Love of Hypnotherapy...
|
Following my previous two videos on the Hypnosis Geek YouTube channel where I was critical of aspects of the hypnotherapy field, I wanted to share some love and lighten the tone a bit.
One of the things I have found throughout the
years is that people really do fall in love with this field and I have attempted to decipher the reasons why as more and more students and course delegates have passed through the (albeit metaphorical) halls of this training college. In my opinion, the reasons people fall in love with the field of hypnosis and hypnotherapy are similar to some of my own reasons, and I share those here in this video. I also talk about how that effects me, my work, my business and a number of other things, have a
watch of this:
For The Love of Hypnotherapy.
This one sort of follows on from the above video, though it is not essential to have watched the above one before this....
Having shared the 21st anniversary of setting up my first hypnotherapy practice back in February
2018, I decided to put together a video whereby I share what I believe are the most important factors to having a lengthy career as a hypnotherapist, something which very few go on to do. I also discuss how to love what you (different from doing what you love) to bring you more career and life satisfaction. Which I believe is a major contributory factor to having longevity of career as a hypnotherapist.
Watch this clip, I hope you find plenty of use in it….
How To Have Longevity of Career As A Hypnotherapist and How To Love What You Do. =====Interested in learning self-hypnosis? Want to get proof of your own self-hypnosis skills and create hypnotic phenomena by yourself, for yourself? Don’t know where to start?
Here’s your answer….
I get asked so often by so
many people about the best way to learn self-hypnosis and to get some kind of evidence that they are doing it correctly. I usually reply to say that the single best way to know you are doing self-hypnosis correctly is to give yourself real-life evidence – by creating hypnotic phenomena.
What do I mean by “hypnotic Phenomena”?
This is our effect. The effect that we are going to create. With stage hypnotists, they create effects of people believing they are someone
else, for example. With hypnotherapists they create effects of being free of habits, for example. With street hypnotists, they create the effect of someone believing their foot is stuck to the floor, for example. Within this self-hypnosis roadmap, you are going to create an effect that is going to be undeniably convincing to you that you are using self-hypnosis well.
This roadmap teaches you how to adopt the hypnotic mindset, how to induce self-hypnosis, how to absorb yourself profoundly
in self-hypnosis, how to create your own incredible hypnotic phenomena, and then how to exit self-hypnosis and develop your skills with it. I think you are going to love this. To get the roadmap and guide sent through to your inbox straight away, just visit this page on my college website:
A FREE Self-Hypnosis Roadmap – Learn How To Create Your Own Hypnotic Phenomena. Go download this, you are going to have a lot of fun with it, believe me. Enjoy engaging with self-hypnosis, most importantly, enjoy creating
real-life undeniable hypnotic phenomena for yourself – it's going to blow your mind.

This Week's Main Article: How To Be Proud of Yourself
|
Be proud of yourself, that is my message today, and I want to give you some help in doing so. Here in the UK, last weekend, we had the London
Pride parade and all week England football fans have been revelling in some new found footballing pride as the national team reached the semi-finals of the World Cup… What does it really mean to be proud of yourself? And how do we become so?
“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of
possibility into flames of achievement.” – Golda Meir.
Being proud of yourself or having strong self-compassion is considered by some as being key to a happy, fulfilling and successful life. Research by Sirois (2013) published in the Self and Identity Journal shows self-compassion even makes you
less likely to procrastinate. It also boosts happiness and reduces stress.
Pride and self-compassion are not things you find in a package at the store, unfortunately. You do not get them exclusively because you are beautiful, strong, wealthy, or popular. Self-compassion is a strength inside you that you can learn to enhance and choose to develop.
When you learn to be proud of yourself, it is built upon your strengths, and it is not crumbled by your (perceived or actual) weaknesses. You can develop your self-compassion on any strength that you have. If you are a fashion minded person with a unique sense of style, then you can be confident about that. You can look at the world knowing that you
have style, charisma, and a taste all of your own.
When the world or your own thoughts ever cause you to doubt yourself you can examine yourself, take a look at what you love and remind yourself that you are special, you are important, and you are living your life in your way. Be proud to wear you and show the world how unique you really are.
“It takes strength to be proud of yourself and to accept yourself when you know that you have something out of the ordinary about you.” – Abigail Tarttelin.
To be proud of yourself, here are 5 simple steps to get you started. Go and read the full article with references and deeper information about how and why you'll
benefit from being proud of yourself.....

I have some football related jokes for you this week....
- What do Lionel Messi and a magician have in common? Both do hat-tricks!
- The new manager of our struggling football team is strict and won’t stand any nonsense. Last Saturday, he caught two fans climbing over the stadium wall and was angry with them. He grabbed them and said: “Get back in there and watch the game until it
finishes!”
- Why is a football crowd learning to sing like a person opening a tin of sardines? They both have trouble with the key!
- Why did Cinderella get kicked off the football team? Because she kept running away from the ball!
- What is a goalkeeper’s favourite snack? Beans on post!
- Why don’t grasshoppers watch football? They prefer cricket!
- What is a ghost’s favourite football position? Ghoulkeeper!
- Why did the manager bring pencils and sketchbooks into the dressing room before the game? He was hoping for a draw! I know "Groan!" Thanks to all who
continue to send them in to me and tag me online with jokes each week. |
