- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
This week's edition of Adam Up is one I am writing with my office doors wide open, barefoot, with sunshine pouring in....
It is actually laughable that one month ago we had snow, and now we have one of the hottest April days on record to contend with!
In this week's edition of this ezine, I'm talking about some serious science in the field of hypnosis and have a couple of videos where I really get into all things science and hypnosis. I've also responded to many, many requests for a video whereby I explain the hypnotic mindset that I refer to so often in my classrooms, articles, my research and to my clients.
My main topic this week is then all about embracing impermanence - I write about what it actually
is, why it is so important, the amazing benefits you'll derive when you do so and also how to actually go about embracing impermanence in your life right away today.
And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking
the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it. Also, we delete you from our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?
New Videos: Do you even science, hypnotherapist?
|
This week, I recorded and shared two new videos where I am talking and presenting
about the need for science in the hypnosis field.
Science and the scientific method in the field of hypnotherapy and hypnosis, this is what I’m talking about in this first video.
I talk about the need for more science and more scientific thinking in the field of hypnotherapy and I explain the reasons why, along with some fundamentals of the scientific method….
Have a watch of this first video, it questions quite a few commonly held beliefs in the hypnotherapy world too:
Why We Need Much More Science and Scientific Thinking in the Hypnotherapy Field.
Secondly, and leading on naturally from that video, I am talking about a similar topic with related themes, but this one is a real
bugbear of mine.... "Science By Press Release."
In 2016, outside of the main body of my keynote presentation at the UK Hypnosis Convention, I spoke about a topic briefly that is something I have spoken about often to fellow professionals since: Science by press release.
In the video I explain what it
means and why I find it so frustrating, and I’m building upon what I was talking about in the previous video…. I also expand greatly by exploding some more myths perpetuated by the hypnotherapy field and talk about some very lazy attitudes within this field go and have a watch…..
That article also includes a number of links to articles on the real-life Pixie dust phenomena that swept the worldwide scientific media - that Pixie dust can regrow limbs!!
======
I
mentioned it in previous editions of this ezine, I am going to be on tour a bit this year. I am coming North to Hull. I am going East to Norwich. I am going west to Cardiff. I am going to the midlands in Birmingham and I'll be in London though the upcoming one day seminars here in Bournemouth in March are now completely full to capacity and sold out. Wherever you are based in the UK though, I hope you'll be able to
access my seminars this year.My rapid inductions and hypnotic phenomena for hypnotherapists seminar is coming to all these venues, and so is my science of self-hypnosis seminar. Many of the dates are at weekends, so there's no excuse. Each is less than £100.00 to attend (plus Vat) and you can read about the course, grab all the dates, details about course content and more by downloading a free prospectus at
these two pages on my website, come and join me in your neck of the woods:
New Video: The Hypnotic Mindset Explained
|
If you have ever read any of the many, MANY self-hypnosis techniques, strategies and approaches that I have written up throughout the years, you will know that I often refer to adopting a hypnotic mindset
when inducing self-hypnosis. I refer to it in my book on self-hypnosis. Likewise, with all of my hypnotherapy clients, I ask them to adopt this hypnotic mindset prior to our sessions and throughout the hypnotherapy session itself. Additionally, it is this hypnotic mindset that is used in the laboratory during my own hypnosis research at Bournemouth University when we are explaining hypnosis and educating study participants about hypnosis.
Today, I decided to record a video and put this hypnotic mindset in fairly simple terms to explain it to those less familiar with it and so that there is reference about it that I can send people to if they need a reminder and an explanation.
Here is the video anyway, it is nice and short, enjoy….
I also have included a write-up of a couple of the explanations I have given over at the above link.
=====
I shared this last week too..... In recent weeks I have been running a very popular webinar for people that are interested in training to be a hypnotherapist.
It includes some in depth information about how and why to adhere to evidence-based approaches and to get a braod ranging education, then it also goes on to talk in detail about the value of learning how to astonish people and gves instruction on a number of
ways to do that, and it also gives some direct business advice about to effectively get up and running by the time you complete your course of study.
I have also enclosed a couple of the most important handouts I have ever put together for all those who watch (they are worth their weight in gold, I assure you) and offer a couple of free audios.... Importantly, it contains some genuinely useful information for you to be aware of right at the beginning of your journey into the field of
hypnotherapy, so go and have a read and a view of the recording that I have made available and public for a limited time. If you are thinking of training to become a hypnotherapist then go and watch this video or if anyone you know is considering it, please forward them on the link:
The Essential Guide to Becoming a Successful Hypnotherapist.
Onto This Week's Main Theme: How To Embrace Impermanence and Why It Is So Important
|
Embrace impermanence; that is my message today, and I’d like to give you a
basic guide on how to embrace impermanence as a way of advancing your enjoyment of life.
“It is not impermanence that makes us suffer. What makes us suffer is wanting things to be permanent when they are not.” – Nhat Hanh.
With so many of my hypnotherapy clients, they firmly
believe that nothing is changing in their life, it feels that way, seems that way, and yes for many of us, sometimes it feels as though nothing changes. Yet at other times if feels as though nothing stays the same, life is volatile and we attempt to control the uncontrollable. In truth, nothing is permanent and yet so many of us seem to be in pursuit of something as if it is (permanent). If life were to stay exactly the same, many might not see the point? Life is transient by nature,
impermanent. We grow, we evolve, we embrace impermanence.
We desire to hold onto things that make us feel good, we try to make them permanent. Marriage is a classic example, we cling on to early romance instead of understanding the relationship as something developing, growing, changing. This is not offering up a recipe to the perfect marriage, but to highlight that when we embrace impermanence, we get
to embrace the relationship in a different, and wonderful way.
The same is true of our relationship with virtually everything else we have in our lives – our work, our roles, our friendships, ourselves….. So instead we shift our focus, and desire to simply enjoying feeling good, basking in feeling good while remaining unattached to what it is that makes you feel that way. It’s that attachment to that so often holds us back and limits us.
Once you come to accept that there is no stopping change and you may or may not be in control of that change, you learn to let go. When you recognise and stop trying to control the uncontrollable, you embrace impermanence. Truly everything and everyone is in a state of impermanence, including the people and the things you love. You are impermanent too, of course.
When you choose to let go and embrace impermanence, instead of digging in your heels and resisting, you gain an increased sense of internal stability and a clearer view, you gain perspective. Letting go is liberating. It doesn’t mean you have to settle for what you don’t want in life. It means you have the power to rise above what feels difficult or challenging. Letting go enables you to recalibrate your perspective so you can move more effectively, creatively and
mindfully through your present moments.
“Awareness of impermanence and appreciation of our human potential will give us a sense of urgency that we must use every precious moment.” ~ Dalai Lama.

rewards:
How To Embrace Impermanence and Why It Is So Important.
This week, my social media output has been filled with memes about hypnosis, photos from my running schedule (including me running in ridiculously hot weather on the sea front) and loads of articles from our vaults
(including some really controversial ones from the past few years!!) and some other bits and pieces.
You can follow and keep up to date here:
Additionally, if you are a student, graduate or friend of my college, then come & join our Facebook group for hypnotherapists, it has some wonderful discussion on there:
I'm completely booked up with regards to being able to take on any new clients for hypnotherapy, mentoring or coaching currently, so have removed those links from Adam Up for a few weeks.
For
those of you interested in finding out a bit more about working or studying with me, here are the pages to go and do that:
Would you like a satisfying and meaningful career as a hypnotherapist helping others?
Are you a hypnotherapist looking for stimulating and career enhancing continued professional development and advanced studies?
We have a range of classroom based and home study courses offering the most comprehensive and highest quality education in the hypnotherapy and hypnosis fields:
If you are a hypnotherapist, then I highly recommend the investment of 10 minutes of your time to read these articles, they are ram-packed full of useful
information even if you do not choose to study with me, they’ll benefit you greatly:
Will Rogers made an interesting observation, “Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else.” Does life seem to be going its own direction despite your best-laid plans? Here's a couple of quotes about the meaning of life and how sometimes you just have to laugh...
Ellen DeGeneres "Accept
who you are. Unless you're a serial killer."
Alan Bennett "Life is rather like a tin of sardines - we're all of us looking for the key."
Carl Sandburg "Life is like an onion: You peel it off one layer at a time, and sometimes you
weep."
Charles Schulz "My life has no purpose, no direction, no aim, no meaning, and yet I'm happy. I can't figure it out. What am I doing right?"
Hahahahaha, I enjoyed those. Thanks to all who continue to send them in to me and tag me online with jokes each week.
