- Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Adam Up
Last week was the first time in a great number of years that I did not send out this weekly Adam Up hypnosis ezine! I had been in class teaching all day, we were hit by freak snow storms and it took me an age to get home. It was too late to send it out and I was back in class the following day.
Anyway, this
week's edition is a bumper one to make up for it. I've got new video footage, tales and pictures of my travels teaching in Iceland, we'll be talking about standing up for what you believe in and how to live an extraordinary life.
And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. If you no longer wish to receive this weekly hypnosis
and personal development ezine, you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot of this email. I only want you to receive it each week if you find it of value and you actually read it. Also, we delete you from our distribution if you have not opened these emails for a while.
Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?
New Video – The Cult of Anti-Intellectualism in the Hypnotherapy Field.
|
A quote that I really rather like is this one, it rings true and feels very
pertinent to me;
“The internet is a double-edged sword of enlightenment and ignorance. It has the capacity to educate millions in ways never before possible, making science accessible, understandable, and relevant. At the same time it infects the public with idiocy, lies, pseudoscience, and the malevolent intention to mislead (kind of like Discovery Channel). Disinformation is a zombie. It is
the resurrected body of mysteries solved, arguments settled, and bad science disproved, marching through half-baked websites and ‘shared’ by newly-infected readers not yet schooled in the truth, spreading fabrications and misinterpretations that eat away at the integrity of science and rot the brains of the masses.” – Douglas Long.
A couple of years ago, I wrote an article that
I share regularly about what I believe to be a cult of anti-intellectualism in the field of hypnotherapy. I decided to build on that and record a video on the topic.
You see, I tire of so much constant sniping at those who wish to see an advancement in credibility in the field of hypnotherapy. Those who think they know better than researchers, academics, doctors and scientists as a result of a 10
month training course (sometimes less than that!) to become a hypnotherapist.
I’ve recorded a video to explain my thoughts, and I champion what I consider to be some brilliant quotes on the same subject, have a watch here:
The Hypnosis Geek UK (and World) Tour
|
Two night's ago, I arrived home late after an incredibly crazy and equally wonderful week.
I ran a Hypnosis Geek webinar late last week on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday I was running my Rapid Inductions and Hypnotic Phenomena and my Science of Self-Hypnosis seminars. Both classes were booked to capacity and had been for a while, but my class numbers were decimated by the snow storms that ran rampage around the UK at the end of last week.
Those that did manage
to make it in joined me for a great couple of days – I still had students travel in from different parts of the UK, Crete and Denmark and the Friday seminar culminated in over 20 people creating their own self-induced self-hypnosis anaesthesia and analgesia and letting me put surgical pins through their arms!
It was a great way to end the two days, as when I drove in on Friday morning the local area
was a very different place to usual. Covered in thick snow, virtually no-one else around, and more people walking on the roads than cars (the pathways were too icy to walk on) – it was how I imagined a snowy zombie apocalypse would be like. When I arrived at the hotel, I think it was just me, the receptionist and a chap shoveling snow off the pathways at the hotel, it was spooky. The vast majority of the country was closed, yet here I was, stood in class with a 3 piece suit and brogues
on.
As of the Friday afternoon, I was not entirely sure if my flights to Iceland on the Sunday would be cancelled. Nonetheless, in true English style, it rained that night, carried on raining and on Saturday, I was back in class, so was Lindsay who was going to be stepping in to teach on Sunday when I was away, and we were welcoming some of my current diploma class students (some were stranded at
home due to snow) and teaching the sixth module of this year’s Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma course.
Sunday morning, all going perfectly to schedule, I got to Gatwick in time and landed at Keflavik airport in Reykjavik where I was picked up by Addo, one the trainers of the hypnotherapy training school who were hosting me for a couple of days. We went straight to the ongoing course, I sat in at
the back of class and did not understand a single word as it was all in Icelandic, but understood the laughter when it happened. We had something to eat, I got showered and changed and we headed back to the course venue hotel where I was delivering a lecture to students and graduates of their college about hypnosis and immune functioning.
Following a good night’s sleep, I was back in class, teaching
my science of self-hypnosis seminar to a wonderful group of people. They really connected with the subject matter, we had a lot of fun and I thought I’d share a few pictures here with you from my time there, go and have a look - there are some great shots of my class antics, my visit to some hot springs and the Blue Lagoon:
I mentioned it in previous editions of this ezine, I am going to be on tour a bit this year. I am coming North to Hull. I am going East to Norwich. I am going west to Cardiff. I am going to the midlands in Birmingham and I'll be in London though the upcoming one day seminars here in Bournemouth in March are now completely full to capacity and sold out. Wherever you are based in the UK though, I hope you'll be able to access my seminars this
year.My rapid inductions and hypnotic phenomena for hypnotherapists seminar is coming to all these venues, and so is my science of self-hypnosis seminar. Many of the dates are at weekends, so there's no excuse. Each is less than £100.00 to attend (plus Vat) and you can read about the course, grab all the dates, details about course content and more by downloading a free prospectus at these two pages on my
website, come and join me in your neck of the woods:
Stand Up For What You Believe!
|
Do you stand up for what you believe in? Today, this is my subject and it is an important one to me.
“A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
One of the most prominent African-American civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr, said, “A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live.” While you might think that this a little harsh or drastic, taking action to
stand up for what you believe in is considered by many to be one of the most important values as a leader, in business and in life in general. We mainly see people standing up for what they believe in rights movements, or politics, or by people with important causes that they believe strongly in.
Yet in many quarters of society, we see people who silence their opinions and lose their authenticity in
an attempt to be liked by everyone or to appease both sides of an ideological divide. Some get muted by those with louder voices, or are repressed in a wide number of ways.
The same thing happens in the business world. In an effort to build relationships and secure an internal support base, leaders can lose sight of who they are and what they stand for. At the heart of my own hypnotherapy college
and business is an ethic, and an ethos and an ideology that I hope shines through.
A number of years ago, I became increasingly disillusioned about the hypnotherapy field. I encountered so many companies and individuals who I believed promoted the field of hypnotherapy in such a way that the field was being held back. I encountered a great many people who I believed to be lacking in ethics and professionalism. I saw repeated perpetuation of myth and misconception. I still see many
training companies who make no effort to develop the field, who are primarily looking to make money regardless of the cost to the long-term health of the hypnotherapy field. I decided to speak up and to speak out. It was uncomfortable and frightening at first and I have had more than my fair share of snipes and dissenting perspectives from those shrouded in the sycophantic communities who refuse to allow questions to be asked about what they do and how they do it.
As time has gone on
however, I feel increasingly more vindicated about looking to champion the evidence base and science for the field of hypnotherapy, about questioning myths and misconceptions and dated notions that get proliferated by many working in this field. The field of hypnotherapy is not exactly like that of politics (though it can feel like it on occasion!!) or a rights movement, but I felt strongly enough to put my head above the parapet, to adopt a stance which at times feels very unpopular, but was
ultimately rewarding, sat well along my values and was a major cause I felt strongly about.
Today, I derive more rewards as a result, but it was not always that way. It was something that became important to me and I wanted to write about the subject here, with the aim of encouraging more people to stand up for what they believe in.
It is a liberating expression of free
will! When you stand up for what you believe in, you are your own person. You are in charge of what you do. You get to decide what you want and what you like.
If someone close to you cannot respect your free will, then maybe they are not worth being close to. You and only you can decide who you are, and what you do. You get to stop being a blind follower, and you get to be a full
expression of yourself.
Do not willingly give up your personal freedom by simply being a faceless body in the crowd. Be yourself. Stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing by yourself. Because even if you are standing alone, you’ll know for a fact that it was your choice. It is a right that we all have and is such a shame not to fully exercise it. Go and read this article in full
as it gives a large number of ways of how to stand up for what you believe, the mindset required and the scientific reasons why you'll benefit from doing so.....
Onto today's main theme... Can Your Life Be Extraordinary?
|
An extraordinary life – there seem to be trends to so many of the topics I write
about on my blog and that appear and re-appear during my research, and there are numerous recurring themes that I thought I’d highlight here today because if you incorporate some or all of these things, you’ll find it much easier to lead an extraordinary life. The irony being that many of the things I refer to are seemingly ordinary, yet science and research suggests they'll help your life become extraordinary...
“I have been terrified every day of my life, but that has never stopped me from doing everything I wanted to do.” – Georgia O’Keeffe.
Life requires courage. It doesn’t mean that existing requires courage – anyone can exist. But, to really live an extraordinary life, we have to be brave enough to do so. To fully live, one must be willing to take
risks, and sometimes step out into the world, trusting who and how we are.
Have you ever thought what your life would be like if you made just a few simple changes with the aim of making your life extraordinary? Have you ever wanted to live a life full of zest, vitality and full of satisfaction and happiness?
“Life and business is like the changing seasons. You cannot change the seasons, but you can change yourself. Therein lies the opportunity to live an extraordinary life, the opportunity to change yourself.” – Jim Rohn.
Ultimately, an extraordinary life = life on your terms. This is different for everyone. But no matter how you define what a truly magnificent life is,
there are some skills that you’ll benefit from mastering. These themes appear again and again in the world of prominent authors and within the research and science literature. Here are 8 ways to lead an extraordinary life:
