I promised you this extra email in this week's Adam Up.
Some people missed a celebration
event last weekend BUT I have something to celebrate this weekend.
So many of you will NOT understand this one but I will explain because this is a really great story and is having quite a significant impact here in Bournemouth (South Coast of England)
We are taking a massive 73% off and so everything will be selling for just 27% of normal price - from now till midnight Monday (Bank Holiday in the UK)
The REASON - Football - YES
(When the cat is away the mouse can play - Adam is on leave - so I can
mention some other club rather than his Nottingham Forest)
Bournemouth FC have been promoted to the Premiership (the mega-rich top league in football here in the UK) and the story is almost unbelievable. I know because I have been involved in events with my business a few years back that was aimed at keeping the football club going.
The club began the 2008-09 season three leagues down from the premiership. They were on the cusp of liquidation three times in six months. Jeff Moyston, the chairman, said last week "We had winding up notices - we had our goods from the shop being repossessed. We had the landlord lock the stadium. That was how bad it was."
There are lots of issues why and how that has changed and it is a really good business story that I will write more about in the future.
I will write an article about the psychology for Adam Up about how a young manager Eddie Howe took his team on a journey to success. Human beings make sense of the world through narrative, and Eddie used techniques that
made his players realise that they were part of an unfolding story.
So much has been written in the press this last week and here is how Matthew Syed ended an article in the Times this week:
But one thing can be said about Bournemouth is that they have soul in
abundance. They may not be the most glamorous club, or the one who play the most captivating football, but they have a human dimension. This may sound touchy-feely, but it is backed by clear science. If we wish to inspire greatness, we must recruit the deepest of emotions and instincts. As one psychologist put it: "Storytelling is the connective tissue that binds us together as human beings.:
More about the psychology another day because now is the time to celebrate and enjoy the success.
On Monday 27th April Bournemouth played the game against Bolton that ensured (almost) that they would be promoted. In theory that could be upset if they lose their last game of the season this weekend by 19 goals. That
won't happen! SURELY.
I was going to send this later today after Bournemouth had played Charlton at lunchtime today. However I am heading to Exeter today so am sending this earlier assuming they haven't lost by 19 goals.
Last week we offered all our audios at 26% and this week I will
nearly match by offering them for 27% (27 being the day Bournemouth won that vital match)
