Hello , Welcome To This Week's Adam Up

We continue with our theme of examining ways to create a wealthy mindset. Following on from last week's discussion about desire and belief, we now look to put meat on those bones; with knowledge!

This week, I ran a running club training session in between Basingstoke and Reading. It was a really progressive club who fully embraced the very tough session and also the psychological skills I shared. The reason I mention this is because my friend and leading professional peer Gary Turner joined us, with his Huskies Max and Harley.

Gary and I are going to be recording a fabulous new podcast very soon, and Gary is going to be guest speaking at my new self-hypnosis for running seminar later on in the year. You can read more about that here:

http://hypnosisforrunning.com/seminar/

The main reason this is in any way relevant today, is that Gary possesses specialized knowledge that people want. Not because he is a 13-time world champion sportsman, but because of his lust-like thirst for knowledge, his ability and desire to plough through literature and serve up evidence-based findings.

When I advise my students and graduates to consider developing a niche to dominate and drive their business, I advise against them attempting to dominate the niche of weight loss or even stopping smoking - the reason being that the competition is so utterly fierce, and you are competing against multi-million pound companies. Yet Gary has disproved this theory - he has been rattling cages, demanding evidence, conducting a vast amount of study, and in turn sharing his very specialised knowledge.

As a result, people are flocking to his latest workshop on the subject of weight loss, they are following his Facebook updates avidly, they are queuing up to buy his book on the subject that he has only just announced he plans to write!

In his famous book 'Think and Grow Rich' Napoleon Hill dedicates an entire chapter to the subject of having specialist knowledge and knowing how to convert that into wealth.

Today, we live in the information age. We have so much access to information Sat in my own office, I have access to all the journals, articles, books and documents that I needed to create the most evidence-based book on the subjects of self-hypnosis and using hypnosis for running. That kind of specialist knowledge is available to anyone and everyone; that's without even needing to attend a library of which we all have inexpensive access to, colleges, Universisites and what about the recent explosion in online education courses, vast amounts of which are free - just go and take a look at companies like Coursera who offer top level education in a wide array of subjects for free.

Knowledge in and of itself does not necessarily create money or riches by itself. And remember, I am talking about specialist knowledge, not just general knowledge here. Knowledge becomes powerful and able to advance wealth when it is organised well and used in a particular way once acquired.

For example, the famous Henry Ford, once the richest man to walk the planet had very little formal education. Napoleon Hill writes that education means "to educe, to draw out, to develop from within." He translates this to mean than an educated individual is one who has developed the faculties of mind to acquitre the outcomes he or she wants in life - including wealth.

if we look also at Bill Gates, also once the planet's richest man in monetary terms, he chose to drop out of University in his first year of study to devote himself to his company Microsoft set up with his childhood friend Paul Allen, writing programming language for the first microcomputer. The rest there is history.

Napoleon Hill writes that an educated man knows where to access specialist knowledge - this might be by asking other people, or finding out who to ask, as well as using all the other resources of the modern era I have mentioned already.

Andrew Carnegie, who features greatly in the book 'Think and Grown Rich' stated that he knew very little about the technical side of the steel business that had made him his fortune, yet his regular mastermind group had individuals within it who provided that specialist knowledge. Specialists are always in great demand.

As we acquire knowledge, specialist knowledge or collate it in whatever way, it needs to be organised and used effectively, through practical planning, ongoing self-discipline to carry out that plan and a combination of ambition and ideas to pave the way for opportunies.

That previous paragraph is rammed full of precious information, it really is. With last week's belief and desire your foundation to build upon, you go about identifying your specialist knowledge and acquiring it one way or another. Once you have acquired your specialist knowledge, you then need engage your imagination and formulate ideas about how to use it effectively and you then plan thoroughly and diligently to make those plans become reality - that in turn requires self-discipline, persistence and ambition: all topics I'll soon cover.

I hope I have impressed upon you the first underlying notion of today's Adam Up - get specialist knowledge, or know how to access it. Then you can use self-hypnosis to aid you in learning how to use it in the most effective way.

Answer some simple questions here - Who do you take wealth advice? Do they have a good prosperity consciousness? Who influences you? Who do you look up to? Are these influences advancing your wealth mindset?

I can remember listening to the personal development author Brian Tracy say that if you take the average income of your five closest friends, that is the amount you are most likely to earn. I am not sure how true that is, but I found it interesting stuff. I choose my advisors very carefully these days and think carefully about how I allow people to influence me.  Please note, I do not personally think it wise to only choose friends based upon their monetary value. I personally consider wealth to mean more than simply money. For example, I could earn a great deal more money if I were to run more courses each year in other destinations - London and Manchester as well as overseas as I am repeatedly asked to do. Yet, I choose to run my courses predominantly here on the South Coast, so that I can devote time to my young family, my running and other aspects of life that make me happier than money alone can.

Recently, I was speaking to a group of people on the idea of mentoring or being mentored and I mentioned to this group of individuals that I continue to be mentored in life and business by people that are brilliant at doing so, in my opinion.

Someone happened to mention that as they were at the embryonic stages of their new business, they did not really have the necessary funds to pay someone to mentor them along the way and the resources of their local government just were not adequate or relevant for what they required.

So I told them about when I was setting up my business, I was lucky to have the world's finest mentors to help me in times of need. I had a round table of world class business mentors - Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Anthony Robbins, and a few others. Pretty impressive, eh? That advice led me to having one of the busiest hypnosis websites in the world, bestselling books, one of the most highly regarded schools around, making primetime TV appearances, speaking at destinations around the world and much more besides.

When running in the various events that I compete in, I have been trained by Paula Radcliffe, Paul Tergat, Brendan Foster, Michael Johnson and many others Their advice led me to be able to run multi-marathons in good times despite my non-classic runners physique; including my five successive marathons in 2012.

The reality of the matter is that I was not actually connecting with these people in their reality. I was not actually speaking to them in the regular way that you would consider speaking to them. I was being trained and mentored by these amazing people in my mind. To have consulted in reality would have been impossible.

Much of the specialist knowledge they have that I wanted was available to me though!!

I read their autobiographies, studied research about them, attended classes, read publications by them, listened to interviews with them, watched broadcasts and video footage of them and got to know as much as I could about them. Then, I created my own psychological internal round table of brilliance that I consulted with when I wanted to and all it cost me was the time invested and my mind offered the wisdom of those people from their perspective and it proved incredibly valuable.

Want to know how to do that too?

Well guess what?

I am going to show you how to do just that here today. How to create a hypnotic mentor. I am going to show you how to do it with just one person first of all and I am going to make the process generic and easy to follow so that you can then adapt it to however you think is the best for you. The first thing you'll want to ask them, is how to best go about using your newly acquired access to specialist knowledge! I have read scripts and seen a wide variety of approaches to doing this classic type of session; some suggest you meet a wise sage, an advisor or some other generic character of wisdom or insight. I think it is best to be specific and use people and real-life examples that you truly believe in and trust as sources of insight, information and wealth development.

Being Advised By a Hypnotic Mentor for Advancing Your Wealth Mindset:

Step One:  You first of all need to find some quiet time, in a place where you are going to be undisturbed for the duration of this session. Be sat upright, in an attentive posture with your eyes closed and your mind ready to actively engage while your body can relax.

Think about your own acquired specialist knowledge, think about who is best to advise you regarding it, think about who is best qualified and suited to helping you develop your wealth in this regard. Reflect for a while and then move on to step two.

Step Two: Induce Hypnosis:

Induce hypnosis. You can do so by any means you desire or know of. You can use the process in my Science of Self-Hypnosis book, use the free audio at this website to practice or have a look at the following articles as and when you need them; they are basic processes to help you establish the hypnotic mindset:

Heavy Arm Self-Hypnosis Induction Method.

Using Eye Fixation for Self-Hypnosis.

The Chiasson Self-Hypnosis Method.

Hand to Face Self-Hypnosis Induction.

Using Magnetic Hands for Self-Hypnosis.

The Coin Drop Self-Hypnosis Induction.

Step Three:

Think about a place where you can go for inspiration, for learning and for insightful instruction and ideas.

Imagine being in a place where you are going to meet that individual. Ideally a place where you can relax and feel safe and somewhere that you find conducive to the wealth mentoring process.

If you wanted to be business-related, you could go to an imaginary gold-paved hotel lobby or luxurious board room with leather reclining seats. Perhaps you go to a place in nature, or sit a familiar environment that you find to be receptive to clear thinking and insightfulness.

Whatever place you choose, make sure it is right for you. Take a seat if that makes you more comfortable; open your mind and be receptive. Convince yourself that you are going to get good guidance here, just know it as you engage in this place with an anticipatory, eager mindset.

Engage your imagination and create it as vividly as you possibly can inside your mind. See the sights, hear the sounds, and enjoy feeling calm, comfortable and at ease here. Take some time to relax and develop your open mind, ready for ideas and inspiration.

Once you have fully immersed yourself in this place, imagining that you are really there, then move on to step four.

Step Four:

Notice that the individual you thought of prior to starting this session steps into this place. Meet the individual (or once you've practiced, a group of individuals; your own mastermind group, for example) in whatever way feels most comfortable for you.

Notice that they are warm, inviting, welcoming and have a congruent, natural smile on their face. Notice what it is about this individual that reminds you they are the right person to be speaking to and notice what it is that tells you and shows you that they want to help you achieve your wealth outcomes.

When you are sure of that, and have this fully in your imagination, move on to the next step.

Step Five:

Look right into that individual's eyes. Get a real sense about who and how they are.

Now, step into their shoes, become them, know their thoughts, their feelings, their beliefs... Become aware of being them - thinking with that person's brain, feeling with that person's gut, seeing through that person's eyes, hearing through that person's ears. Immerse yourself in being that person - convince yourself that you are now that person. Think as they think, feel as they feel - don't think 'as if' you were them - be that person in every way.

See the person that is sat across from you (that is you over there) - give that person your advice, suggestions, ideas, thoughts, feelings and instruction with regards to the wealth goals that he/she wishes to achieve. Advise them on how to use that specialist knowledge they have access to. Do not edit what is said, just let it pour out.

Only when you have exhausted all ideas and thoughts and dispensed your advice, step out of those shoes again and take your seated position, looking over at that individual.

Then move on to the next step.

Step Six:

As you sit there, listen carefully to all that advice you receive from that individual.

Notice the look in the eyes as it is communicated, feel the intuition, respect the experience and insight, be , grateful and appreciative as you enjoy the fact that they are there to help you. Let yourself know and be reassured that you are in the right place at the right time as you receive that insight, instruction and consideration.

Ask any questions that may arise in your mind. Trust that you'll get good advice, trust the things that are spoken to you, believe in it. Soak up that information, soak up the ideas.

With this fully complete, move on to step seven.

Step Seven:

Thank the individual for helping and thank yourself for investing the time to do this exercise. Imagine all that learning is being integrated within you, that you have taken it on board and it is providing you with more benefit and direction.

As you do so, start to briefly think about how to use this information and how it will fit into your plans going forward - or rather, how you will work it into your plans for achieving your wealth goals.

Imagine being filled with a sense of purpose and direction, imagine being inspired and motivated to take action and use what you have learnt here.

Start to formulate your plans further, and when you have done so, move on to the next step.

Step Eight:

Leave the place you are in when you feel you have integrated your learning and are sure you have a firm sense of purpose and commitment about you.

Tune in to your breathing again. Bring your awareness back to the place you are in, bring back with you the lessons and the learnings, the resources, the guidance that you've gained.

Then open your eyes and go about your day with renewed zest and start taking action steps relevant to the guidance you received. Any plans you have made previously, now doctor them accordingly and start to build upon your belief, desire and know that you now have a variety of specialist to impart and to use for your own gain.

Of course, there are always likely to be times when you really do need a real mentor or guidance and advice from someone that has the right experience or understanding of what you need, however, you can tap into your strengths and resources often to find the right guides, mentors and people to offer you advice and find that mentor within. As you get better at doing this, you can have more than one mentor at a time and create a table of brilliance like I do with lots of masters from their fields.

Have a wonderful week this week. Your homework is to consult with some of your mind's mentors and enjoy the benefits of them! Consult with some people that you think are going to enhance your wealth mindset and remember to set about accessing some specialist knowledge!

Articles Of The Week

Here are a selection of topical articles that I enjoyed reading this week, often related to the fields of hypnosis, hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and other forms of personal development. Some may have just amused me or made me smile. My personal comments about them are in brackets and just because we feature an article here, it does not mean they represent my own views - most often, they do not! If you ever come across any related articles that you think may feature well, then get in touch with me and we can share them here:

This is an article from The Independent in 1994 - but very relevant to recent discussions on regression and using hypnosis for memory retrieval:

Hypnosis for anxiety, stress:

Does Psychotherapy Really Work?

Can hypnosis cure stress?

Solution-Focused Therapy as a Culturally Acknowledging Approach With American Indians

More next time.

Joke Of The Week

The only one I was sent this week, but is a belter...

A duck goes into a furniture store and says 'got any duck food?'

The guy at the counter says, 'sorry, we don't sell duck food'.

The little duck walks out.

The next day, same duck, same guy. 'Got any duck food?'

'Sorry little duck, I told you yesterday, no duck food here. '

The duck walks out.

Next day, again, 'got any duck food?'

The guy says 'No! we don't sell duck food! and if you come in here again I'm gonna nail your feet to the floor!'

The duck walks out. next day, duck walks in. 'Got any nails? '

The guy says 'what?... no'.

'...got any duck food?'

Hahahahahaha, brilliant, love that one. Thank you everyone who sends me in the jokes and tells me them with such frequency, they help keep a smile on my face!
