A rather belated Happy new year to you. I've not sent out an issue of my Adam Up broadcast for a couple of months, having been dealing with loss and separation during the holidays, I found it tough to write and share positivity when the festive season did not feel wholly that way for me. It was time for resilience ands a time when I know lots of people struggle for a variety of reasons, so I worked on other aspects
of my business and my social channels, articles and videos went quieter than usual for a short period of time and until I felt capable and congruent doing so once again.
There have been a few bits and pieces I've shared online since I last sent an edition of Adam Up out and I have some other things to share with you today....
I've shared videos of my end of year weightlifting personal best attempts below, and do my best to illustrate how I use self-hypnosis and
other psychological skills to advance my ability and increase my physical strength, there are also videos on the topics of evidence-based practice, research provenance, how irresistible it is when you stifle laughter and the importance of attuning with clients in a clinical setting. I've also included some articles covering the topics of the science of giving gifts, sticking to your healthy eating plan, how to utilise one-track-mindedness, and how to find the courage to make big changes in
your life, all really perttinent at this time of year I'm sure you'll agree. Wherever you are in the world, I hope you are healthy and happy and that 2025 has started well for you.

I have just shared the dates for the next 6 months for our regular group supervision sessions I host in our hypnotherapist development hub - our members can join as a supervisee or as an observer (which many find incredibly useful and insightful) and which all counts as official supervision with me as your supervisor, duly approved by your hypnotherapy professional organisation.
We also run monthly
practice sessions for members and all of our graduates and current students have access to these sessions whereby all present get to connect with like-minded people from all over the world and practice skills, approaches and get feedback as they seek to develop, stay sharp or just get practice in that some struggle to find sometimes.
Additionally, all recordings of my 4-part Trauma for Hypnotherapists series that was recorded in recent weeks are now live, plus the first part has an
additional supplementary session that advances on the effects of trauma on the major brain networks that is introduced in that first session. These sessions aim to advance and compliment the way you work with clients who have experience trauma, help you understand what is happening in the brain and how to use your existing skillset along with some new skills to advance your clinical work in this regard.
SOme of you may remember my popular podcast 'Hypnosis Weekly' that is sadly no longer
available publicly - all episodes ever recorded are available in the hub, along with all the latest recordings of the UK Hypnosis Convention that we recorded at the end of last year, including keynote David Spiegel and our interview with Jonathan Goodwin (you can read more about the UKHC video sets that are available for purchase here).

1. As I state here in this video, the American Psychological Association define evidence-based practice as “the integration of the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of the patient characteristics culture and preferences”
In this snippet, I’m seeking to
impress the idea there that evidence-based practice draws upon the best available research PLUS clinical expertise and the context of the individual, their characteristics and personal preferences and not just exclusively adherence to science – the science we use to help inform us, not exclusively dictate what we do, which at this college is an important thing to bear in mind when agreeing the direction of the client’s treatment. the importance of discerning between the types of quality information we use to inform our hypnotherapy practice and our knowledge base. I recommend using PROMPT as a guide, here we explore the (P in PROMPT) concept of information Provenance and its significance in discerning the reliability of data. In the safe container of the

of An Attuned Hypnotherapist 4. On a recent hypnotherapy diploma training course, I had just finished doing a practical hypnosis demonstration at the front of class and took some time to explain some of what I had done and the reasons for those things. Just a small point was that the lovely man I was working with had laughed during the session – I had framed the session in a playful way and we were a bit giggly anyway, and he had laughed happily
during the hypnosis. This is fine and contrary to concerns that some have, does not diminish the hypnosis or therapeutic aspect of what we do, far from it. However, if you try to stifle that laughter, or even make it stop, it becomes gloriously impossible to tame if you are not careful. It erupts and can lead to an uncontrollable fit, which is not always the most useful. What to do then? Just be ok with it, let it happen, join in a little bit, accept it.
And by the way, I am deadpan, when
saying “it’s a serious business” I was being ironic given the tone of the entire session… Plus, laughter is absolutely the best medicine, right? Watch video clip here: When Stifling Laughter Makes It Irresistible

What is healthy obsession? If you’ve seen the Rocky films, you’ll recall him putting a photograph of the Russian boxer Ivan Drago on his mirror for him to look at and be one-track minded about each day while he was isolated for his training regimen in the snowy
outback where he was training. A couple of years ago, I had my own Rocky nemesis moment with a new guy who arrived at my gym and was naturally very strong. He ended up convincingly beating my squat record and then left the gym a couple of months later. I had to look at his name on the board in the middle of the gym each day and decided to dedicate myself to getting that record back. I eventually did so, driven by a single point of focus, a healthy obsession that means the record still stands
today. When I wrote my first book, I did virtually nothing else until it was completed, and we’ll all no doubt have times when we became healthily obsessed and one-track minded and it proved to be a valuable approach. 4. At the end of last year (2024) my gym hosted it’s annual testing day whereby members are invited to work towards testing their strength with some of the main lifts we train throughout the year. It is a great opportunity to see where
you are at.
