- Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Adam Up
It has been over two months since I sent out an edition of this Adam Up broadcast newsletter. A lot has happened in my personal and professional life and I have been incredibly busy. It is Autumn, shops are bulging with Halloween goodies, people are out pumpkin picking, the new academic year has begun here since I last sent an edition of Adam Up out and I have some things to share with you
today....
The question in the title of today's edition is a pretty valid one. Why on earth would I be taking videos of myself without a shirt on, doing pull-ups? The main reason is to hold myself accountable as I aim to be a good example for the programme I am about to run in coming weeks "The Hypnotic Body Mastery Programme" you can go and watch the video and read about the programme here at this page of my college website. I'll announce official details in coming weeks for those interested.
Today, my main intention is simply to share with you all the latest articles and videos I've featured and shared online since the previous edition of Adam Up. Additionally, our new academic year has begun and so we have a new set of dates for our courses in 2025 which include a new hybrid format of our diploma (part online, part live
tuition), our monthly weekend diploma course, and livestream options whereby yu can join me live from the comfort of your own home wherever you are in the world.
I am sharing a number of videos today including one about the dopamine trap, one about neuroplasticity, another explaining amygdala hijack, and two really important videos about the topic of self-hypnosis. I'm also then sharing a number of articles including one about how to stop being cynical, one about your psychological
immune system, another about how to engage in neuroplasticity exercises, and one all about how to stick to a healthy eating plan. Wherever you are in the world, I hope you are well, happy and thriving.

Articles & Videos: What's New? A wide range of new articles to help in varying aspects of life here today...
|
New videos:
1. In this video, Adam explains how consistent rewarding of dopamine in the brain can keep us trapped in old behaviours, even if they are not good for us. Watch Video Here: What is the Dopamine Trap? 2. The brain’s ability to rewire itself through neuroplasticity offers tremendous potential for improving mental health and well-being. By engaging in the neuroplasticity exercises outlined in this clip — individuals have the potential to experience psychological and emotional benefits.
The beauty of neuroplasticity is that
anyone, regardless of age or background, can harness its power to enhance mental well-being. As Dr. Norman Doidge, a leading expert in neuroplasticity stated,
“The brain is far more malleable than we ever thought, and it can change in ways we have yet to fully understand.” By incorporating these science-backed exercises into daily life, we can unlock the brain’s potential to improve our mental and emotional health. Watch video here: Best Ways to Benefit from Neuroplasticity. 3. Recently in a Video on my college website, I referred to “amygdala hijack” and a bunch of people asked me what that was…. So I recorded a video to explain. Watch video here: What is ‘Amygdala Hijack’? 4. I was recently invited to submit an article on the topic of defining Self Hypnosis which presents a number of challenges that I highlight in this video today. I think it is a stimulating and interesting discussion.
Is all hypnosis self-hypnosis? Are self- and hetero-hypnosis distinct entities and if
so, at what level? At what point of less involvement by a hypnotist does hetero- become self-hypnosis? Does self-hypnosis warrant a definition of it’s own that is distinct to hetero-hypnosis? Is it actually folly to try and dissociate the two and if so, for what reason? Watch video here: Muddied Waters: The Challenge of Defining Self-Hypnosis. 5. Here is another brief snippet from my interview with Tracey Grist, Chair of the NCH, earlier this year. The full video can be found on my college website’s blog. I discuss the empowering role of self-hypnosis in debunking misconceptions and alleviating nervousness about hypnosis. When individuals learn how to harness self-directed techniques with a evidence-informed insight and guidance, it
can lead to a far less worrying image of what hypnosis actually is and can be. Watch video here: Overcoming Concerns and Misconceptions About Hypnosis: The Power of Self-Hypnosis.
New
Articles:
All articles are founded in science and have references for you to explore should you wish: 1. In the same way that our physical bodies have immune systems to ward off diseases and infections, our minds possess a psychological immune system designed to protect us from emotional and mental harm and reduce the impact of life’s inevitable
stressors. The concept of a psychological immune system, while less tangible than its physical counterpart, plays a crucial role in maintaining our mental well-being. Just as we take steps to boost our physical immunity, we can actively enhance our psychological immune system to better handle life’s challenges.
This article delves into this concept of psychological immunity, its importance, and I’m offering up a number of practical strategies backed by scientific research to strengthen
it. By understanding and applying these methods, we can cultivate resilience, maintain emotional balance, and lead happier, more fulfilling lives... Read full article here: Your Psychological Immune System: How to Strengthen It. 2. How do you stop being so
cynical? Why bother seeking to stop being so cynical? Especially when it feels like second nature to so many of us. Today, I’m exploring the psychology of cynicism and doing my best to provide actionable, scientifically supported ways that anyone can apply to stop being so cynical.
Cynicism, while often masked as realism or even intelligence, can trap individuals in a cycle of negative thinking, scepticism, and mistrust. The tendency to assume the worst in people, situations, and even
oneself can erode relationships, hinder personal growth, and affect mental health... Read full article here: How to Stop Being So Cynical. 3. What are neuroplasticity exercises? In recent years, the concept of neuroplasticity has become popular as it has gained increasing
recognition, especially in psychological and mental health circles. Neuroplasticity is often referred to as the brain’s ability to reorganise itself by forming new neural connections throughout life, which offers hope to those looking to improve mental well-being. The brain is not fixed or unchangeable as once believed, but instead, it is a dynamic and adaptable organ capable of growth and transformation.
In this article, I’m briefly exploring what neuroplasticity is, its benefits,
and offering up a variety of simple neuroplasticity exercises supported by scientific research that anyone can employ to enhance mental well-being.... Read full article here: Neuroplasticity Exercises to Advance Well-Being. 4. Learning to stick to your healthy
eating plan is at the heart of any physical mastery programme. I have been in the process of putting together a ‘Psychology of Body Mastery’ programme and showing video snippets on my Instagram account of me with my shirt off to hold myself accountable to that which I am demonstrating and sharing with the public later this year (I’ll share details of the release date on my social media channels in coming weeks for those interested). Learning to stick to your healthy eating
plan and then maintaining it is something many aspire to, yet for so many of us, it can be a challenge. Temptations are everywhere, unwanted habits get formed, from the appealing array of processed foods to the emotional and psychological triggers that can derail even the most determined healthy eater. The good news is that psychological science offers insights into how to stick to your healthy eating plan by understanding and harnessing the power of your mind. By delving into strategies
grounded in research and neuroscience, you can enhance your willpower, improve your self-discipline, and create a mindset conducive to long-term healthy eating habits.
Therefore, here today, I thought I’d share some simple, scientifically supported psychological strategies that anyone can adopt to stick to your healthy eating plan and achieve your related goals. By understanding the psychological factors at play, you can cultivate long-lasting habits that support your health and
well-being... Read full article here: How to Stick to Your Healthy Eating Plan.

Participants received either 5 weekly 120-min sessions of a hypnotherapy group programme for stress reduction and improved stress coping plus hypnosis audio recordings to use at home plus an educational booklet for stress coping (hypnosis group) versus an educational booklet only (control group).
Compared to the control group, the hypnosis group showed significant reduced perceived stress after 5 and 12 week follow-up. Link to research paper given in my college Facebook group. ....
