- Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Adam Up
One of the reasons I post videos of my training and weight lifting endeavours online in my social media feeds is that I do my best to be an example of that which I teach. I think it is all well and good me publishing academic papers on the virtues of self-hypnosis, but even better if I can demonstrate my own application and belief in that which I teach and write about. It has gradually become more and more
interesting to me that despite my age (in my 50s now) I have continued to get stronger and fitter by combining excellent coaching and training in the gym with psychological skills - namely, self-hypnosis. This is something that I shall be lecturing on this year, but for now I have compiled an interesting video on the topic that I hope you'll find stimulating.
I ran my 9 day intensive hypnotherapy diploma course earlier this month with a wonderful group of students. I love
it, but also find it tiring so my output of articles and videos has been slightly less than usual this month. However, in addition to the video on strength and hypnosis, I have also offered up a few other interesting topics in my videos. I have a number of new articles for you also - in particular one that sets out to explain the health benefits of crying. There are also articles on how to embark upon self-discovery, restoring mental energy and not giving away your
power.
I'm not going to add much more other than that I loved Netflix's version of the 3 Body Problem (I loved the books) and Dune 2 was just incredible at the cinema. If you celebrate it, then I wish you and your loved ones a wonderful Easter - the main significance of this for my children is that they get to eat a ridiculous amount of chocolate and have time off school, but I'm looking forward to having some time off with my family and relaxing after a heavy
work schedule this month.

Articles & Videos: What's New? A wide range of new articles to help in varying aspects of life here today...

New videos:
1. Adam explains that a response set is whereby the upcoming hypnotherapy technique or intervention is explained using psycho-education, universal metaphors or with cultural references such as sharing themes from his favourite sci-fi comedy TV shows! The response set creates effective expectation and
informs the rationale of the process about to be engaged with. Watch Video: The Response Set in Hypnotherapy Sessions. 2. Can Hypnosis Make You Stronger? Adam seeks to answer this as he considers the existing research for hypnosis and self-hypnosis with
some clips from a recent webinar he presented. Watch Video: Can Hypnosis Make You Stronger? 3. Adam speaks about incorporating mindfulness into hypnotherapy sessions for clinical benefit and promotes the value of mindfulness, heightened self-awareness and even helping
patients to create self-consciousness as a means of dismantling the automacity of clinical issues. Watch Video: Using Self-Awareness and Mindfulness Differently: Break Free from Automaticity of Problems. 4. While in class
last week I recorded a quick video outlining a simple ABC model from cognitive therapy that we often use to socialise clients with the cognitive model – the same ABC model (antecedents, beliefs, consequences) is then applied with hypnosis to help conceptualise it and help clients understand why it is useful to have a good understanding of hypnosis before hypnotherapy gets underway. New Articles:
All articles are founded in science and have references for you to explore should you wish: 1.
“When you know yourself, you are empowered. When you accept yourself, you are invincible” – Tina Lifford Self-discovery is a life-long journey and starts with asking ourselves the right questions. We can relieve ourselves of so much anxiety and unhappiness when we focus on doing things in life that truly align with our personal value. However, to become aware of these values and in order to subsequently set compatible goals, we may first need to
ask ourselves who we are at our core. What is it that drives and inspires us? On the other hand, it is also crucial to ask yourself about what drains your energy. True self-discovery encompasses all areas of life: material, psychological, social and for some, spiritual. In contemporary times, self-discovery is often only equated with getting one’s dream job or working to one’s full potential; while that does hold true, to live a life that is fulfilling over time requires us to meet ourselves
at a deeper level.
Our journey of self-discovery however, requires real effort at the same time. Introspection must along the way turn into action; otherwise, we would not be able to grow as people; so hours of self-reflection can end up bearing no fruit. This is much more likely to be done when we have a good foundation to base our actions upon. These ideas here in this article aim to help you lay out the map of your growth, the rest lies in action! Let’s get started with your
self-discovery journey.. Read Full Article: Ways To Start Your Self-Discovery Journey. 2. “Those who do not weep, do not see.” – Victor Hugo Crying is sometimes considered a sign of weakness and low emotional stamina, especially
in men. It is even sometimes discouraged and if someone around us is crying, we feel the urge to fix things and cease the crying immediately rather than treating it like any other emotional response like laughing or getting angry. Crying is a completely natural response to emotional distress in our lives and actually holds some psychological benefits. A good cry feels cathartic like nothing else. Bottling up emotions on the other hand can be a sign of low emotional health and
intelligence. Not having the emotional awareness and strength to release negative emotional malaise can turn into vying types of emotional outbursts. Bottled up emotions can also turn into passive aggression whereby we might repeatedly hurt people around us because of an event that remains unresolved in our hearts and minds. At a larger level, crying makes us feel alive. It reminds us the good and bad aspects of life. If we become completely numb to the ups and lows in life, this
might be a sign of an unhealthy state of mind. Crying is very nuanced; crying alone, with a friend, crying as you journal, as you read a book or say a prayer, all these have different impacts on us and yield psychological benefits that we might not have thought something as trivial as crying could have. In this article, I’m offering up a number of ways crying can benefit your mental, emotional, and physical health.. Read Full Article: How Crying Can Benefit Your Health. 3. With the information flux today, fixating on other peoples’ lives and often feeling like there is something lacking in our lives, mental health concerns have statistically risen across the world. Especially, young people feel drained even after not doing much during the day. On the other
hand, with life becoming extremely competitive, stress levels are also at an all-time high. People often want to be perfect in the way they look and who they are as individuals. Our ability to endure and exhibit patience through life is becoming difficult as it feels like we have to achieve too much with very little time. It is becoming hard for people to truly choose their battles and pursue what they authentically want rather than seeking something because everyone around them is or because
that is what is conventionally considered cool and acceptable. One fact is undeniable – life can be hard! Life is not necessarily meant to be easy, every once in a while, life will and does suck and that is not the problem; however, in the day and age we live in, we need to wisely choose which problems we focus upon and what we care about. We can not worry about everything and try to achieve everything. If we prioritise what is important to us and let go of what does not
necessarily align with our values, we will lead richer lives. Mental energy is not restored by avoiding negativity but rather by replacing the negativity in our lives with something valuable and what makes us happy. This article offers a range of ways you can restore your mental energy when you find yourself bogged down by life or stuck in a rut... Read Full Article: 12 Ways To Restore Your Mental Energy. 4. “You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds…Claim and consciously use your power.” ― Louise L. Hay
We might not be in control of our lives and fate, but we are in
control of the narrative we build around it. However, to build a strong narrative requires mental strength and consistent action. Once what we think of our lives and ourselves is what matters most to us, we claim agency and power. The moment this narrative shakes, and the opinions of others crawl in, we begin to lose inner peace and often our power as people. You might wonder, what does losing your power look and feel like? What are the signs?
Giving away your personal power can manifest
in low confidence, being constantly overwhelmed, or being preoccupied with what others think of you. This might hinder you from taking risks, expressing yourself and living actively. This begins to affect your relationships and world views at large making you a passive and reclusive person who is unable to fully exercise their agency. A good starting point always is to start thinking about what makes you feel powerful, energised, and good about yourself and do more of that. Cancelling out bad
habits is not enough, building good habits is key. Habits that hold us accountable and force us to take responsibility of our lives no matter what the situation or circumstances may be.This article offers a range of ways in which one can claim their personal power... Power.
Upcoming Events and Latest News: The 2024 UKHC speaker line-up and schedule was announced today...
|
The schedule and line-up for the 2024 UK Hypnosis Convention is now live and public on the convention website. Some points of note: Firstly, although the timings have remained the same as last year, the formerly hour-long slot immediately after lunch has been divided into two 30 minute speaker slots. Many major congress events and conferences now consider 30
minute presentations to be the longest they'll offer, and more evidence pointing to human beings inability to focus and concentrate for much longer led to this change to the schedule along with lots of feedback to this effect from our attendees. Secondly, we have done our best to schedule so that similar subjects are not being offered at the same time slot - that is, you should always find 3 topics that are contrasting as much as possible in each time slot. The line-up has
been organised primarily due to feedback and requests received by our attendees along with the ethos that we seek to uphold for the convention as I did my best to disseminate publicly in videos and on our application page. It (the schedule announcement) has been later than usual as we had 3 times as many applications as we have speaker slots and it has taken a lot of work. We are delighted with it. There is so much on offer to stimulate, educate, provoke, inspire and we are so
excited to share it with you. I can't wait for November now - along with our Sunday interview, closing keynote, Saturday Gala dinner entertainment, Friday night live event (and more announcements to come) we believe this to be an unparalleled event for the professional hypnosis community. Embark on a journey of self-improvement through the powerful practice of self-hypnosis? How to do that though?
Over the years I’ve made a lot of resources available to help people learn all they can about self-hypnosis. I thought I’d put as many of them as possible all in one place for easy access and to have somewhere to send people when they ask me about exploring and learning about science-supported,
research-informed, evidence-based self-hypnosis.

Updates in our Hypnotherapist Development Hub.
1. Finding and Understanding Hypnosis
Research: The recording of the webinar I ran last month on this topic is now available and accessible in the hub. 2. Hypnosis Audio of the week: Hypnotherapists benefit from self-care and hypnosis too, right? And we often neglect ourselves or find it tough to work with colleagues or other professionals to receive hypnosis sessions. Therefore, I decided that I'd add a section to the hub that will include a hypnosis audio track for yu to use every week.
I have added a few tracks already to start the year off. I am simply adding sessions that I think are stimulating, enjoyable and beneficial, and highly recommend that you engage with them in the way you'd advise a client to do - that is to be an active agent in the process and not be passive; collaborate with the audio, adopt your hypnotic mindset. Importantly though, find some time to spend with yourself each week with a hypnosis session and enjoy some time for
yourself. 3. Latest diploma footage: The latest footage of the updated and current diploma course is now live and added to the hub - for the first time, you'll see a recording of me conducting a regression session demonstration. 4. Hypnosis for Migraines: Our most recent CPD webinar featuring Dr Sue Peacock presenting about hypnosis for migraine relief has been uploaded.
We have a range of others speaking on
some really interesting topics in the hub later in coming months that our members can join live too.
There is so much more included and that can be accessed in full if you are a member of my Hypnotherapist Development Hub. Visit the link here for full details on how to subscribe to it monthly or
annually.
In recent weeks, my social media output has been filled with video clips of me squatting at the gym, lots of evidence-based memes citing the latest hypnosis research, photos from my life and loads of articles from our
vaults and some other bits and pieces. You can follow and keep up to date here: The evidence based hypnosis meme of the week is below....
