- Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Adam Up
It has been 6 week's since the previous edition of Adam Up. Those 6 weeks are pretty much the busiest time of year for me, but this year has been particularly so....
The new academic year is underway and I have a new diploma course intake, the UK Hypnosis Convention is just a fortnight away, we've had half-term with my children this week, I had a deadline for a journal article that has just completed peer
review and will be published soon, I've been writing a new course that I'll be delivering to our hub members in December, I'm training for a big January fitness event and aiming for a national podium place in my age category, and then the day-to-day running of my business, having a busy family life whereby my kids seem to need Dad's taxi services every 5 minutes, and I think you get the picture. The world famous Derren Brown recorded a video clip about joining me at the UK Hypnosis Convention and we've sold out of one-day tickets for that day of the convention (though there are still some 3-day tickets available for those who wanted to join us for the Sunday Derren joins us) and it got me feeling excited and proud of the event and what is has become, while also feeling a sense of
trepidation and slightly stressed at the prospect of running the event which has so much expectation surrounding it. I choose all this and I certainly don't do anything I don't feel capable of, and all-in-all, it is very enjoyable and rewarding; I'm doing things I love doing. I'm sharing an article this week that centres around an idea of positive stress whereby stress is seen as a powerful driving force rather than a debilitating obstacle of some kind, and the article was borne
out of some of the ways I feel like I am living currently. There are other articles I'm sharing with you this week too - about quelling some of life's desires for a more rewarding life, how to achieve self-actualisation, how to derive more pleasure from your daily life, how to get into flow states and use them in your daily life and how to get your imagination working for you more progressively. All of which I hope you find stimulating and offering something useful to
you. In addition to articles, I share a lot of infographics on some really interesting and stimulating topics on my IG account, Twitter and Facebook, you can browse through those anytime. All my social media links are given at the foot of this newsletter broadcast. Myself, and all of us who work here hope that you are safe and healthy wherever you are in this world. Likewise, I hope you are coping well with life currently and that your
mental health is bearing up. And just as a reminder, you are receiving this email because you signed up for this ezine, downloaded a course prospectus or attended a course at some point in time. Articles: What's New?
A wide range of new articles to help in varying aspects of life here today...
|
All articles are founded in science and have references for you to explore should you wish: 1. “Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire; you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will.” – George Bernard Shaw.
George
Bernard Shaw’s profound words underscore imagination’s vital role in our lives. It is the birthplace of innovation and the foundation upon which our dreams are constructed. In a world that often values practicality and logic, the significance of nurturing our imaginative faculties cannot be overstated. Today, I’m offering up fifteen steps designed to help you unlock your imagination’s potential, enabling it to work for you more effectively in every facet of your life. Whether you’re an artist, a
scientist, an entrepreneur, or anyone seeking to infuse your daily existence with a touch of creativity, these steps will guide you on the path to harnessing the transformative power of imagination. Read Full Article: 15 Steps to Get Your Imagination Working for You More in
Life. 2. Imagine a world where time loses its grip, distractions cease to exist, and every action you take feels like a seamless dance of creativity and productivity. This state of harmonious focus is what we call “flow.” It’s that elusive moment when you’re so absorbed in your work that hours feel like minutes, and you accomplish tasks with astonishing ease. Flow is the secret sauce of peak performance, the muse of artists, the edge of athletes, and the
driving force behind many groundbreaking innovations.
In the words of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the psychologist who coined the term, “Flow is the secret to happiness, to creativity, to feeling fully alive.”
It’s that profound sense of fulfilment that arises when you’re fully engaged in an activity, so much so that you lose track of time and self-consciousness. Whether you’re an aspiring writer, a budding musician, a coding wizard, or an athlete aiming for greatness, the
flow state can transform your pursuit of excellence. Yet, entering the flow state is often easier said than done. In the cacophony of our modern lives, with the constant barrage of notifications and the allure of endless distractions, achieving this state of heightened consciousness can feel like chasing a mirage. Here today, I’m aiming to unravel some of the secrets to accessing this coveted realm of peak performance. Let’s begin... Read Full Article: 15 Steps to Get into Flow State and Unleash Your Potential. 3. “What a man can be, he must be. This need we call self-actualisation.” – Abraham Maslow.
If only achieving self-actualisation was as simple as taking a course over the weekend or enrolling on an
online education course. It would be good if we could obtain it fast and readily, as is the case with many things in the modern world. It’s not about the destination, as many have heard before. It is all about the journey. It is important to recognise that self-actualisation is not about reaching a goal or reaching a milestone (though there may be objectives and milestones along the way). Actually, it’s the development process. In terms of self-awareness, fulfilment, appreciation, and
contentment, the process is about becoming who you are.
In this article, I’ll explain the concept of self-actualisation, explain why it’s important, and offer tips to assist you in achieving self-actualisation in the contemporary world. Read Full Article: How to Achieve
Self-Actualisation. 4. “Happiness is a deep sense of flourishing, not a mere pleasurable feeling or feeling emotion but an optimal state of being.” – Matthieu Richard.
Close your eyes and visualise perfect joy for a second. It might be enjoying a lovely day in the sun while revelling in the knowledge that your grown children are coming to visit. Alternatively, it may be the complete opposite: After a hectic week, some peace and
quiet around the house. Although it may seem brief or even unusual, there are ways to experience more joy every day.
Although they are closely connected and frequently occur concurrently, joy and happiness are distinct sensations that many people mistake for one another. Joyfulness is a stronger, more sustained state that produces feelings of inner peace and contentment while happiness is an emotion that comes in short bursts of extreme pleasure, excitement, and
fulfilment.
According to Forrest Talley, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist in California, “Joy comes from setting up the right conditions for it to suddenly appear. Whereas happiness can be easily manufactured.” A decent cup of coffee in the morning or a hilarious film might make you happy. Contrarily, joy requires more effort to develop. It takes time because the procedure is ongoing.
Nevertheless, all the health advantages you gain along the road make it worthwhile. According to
Susan Damico, M.A., director of the Devereux Centre for Resilient Children, “numerous studies suggest that happiness and joy predict lower heart rate and blood pressure, as well as stronger immune systems.” Furthermore, people who report experiencing more happy feelings experience fewer diseases, such as minor aches and pains. According to Talley, pursuing happiness also extends life. Journal of Happiness Studies research indicated that, in 53% of the situations, happier people tended to live
longer.
Here today are a few ways people can use to increase the amount of pleasure they experience in their day-to-day lives, helping them to feel happier and enjoy life more. Read Full Article: How to Derive More Pleasure from Your Daily Life. 5. “I have
learned to seek my happiness by limiting my desires, rather than in attempting to satisfy them.” – John Stuart Mill.
If you have an interest in personal development or not, we all tend to read or hear something about pursuing our dreams and finding ways to make them come true. It is a big part of what makes life so fascinating, thrilling, and hopeful, as well as a wonderful opportunity for the soul to grow. Desiring what we do not now have in our lives is often about
pursuing our ambitions, and without dreams, our prospects for a better future, as well as our ability to realise our dreams, may be rather gloomy. Just like the anticipation of Christmas Day and all the associated expectations can be difficult for some children. However, when those wants turn negative, they can make you sad since you may start comparing them to the life you now lead and conclude that you don’t have as much as what you would like to have. It is what living in the present
moment is often about. Oh, and being grateful is another crucial way to embrace each day and step off the hedonic treadmill whereby you are consistently grasping for that which you do not have instead of appreciating that which you do. Sometimes, when you put all of your energy into focusing on what you want but don’t have and do not maintain an attitude of thankfulness for the present, it can create some frustration and dissatisfaction in the present moment. If you feel that
this moment is lacking because you don’t have something or someone in it, then you run the risk of missing the one and only moment you have going for you right now. You might severely slip down the rabbit hole of being unhappy and dissatisfied with your life every day if you look ahead or linger on wants that were satisfied or that are still unfulfilled in the past. Stress doesn’t necessarily always have to be terrible; we often just have a tendency to think of it that way. Stress can be a necessary component of moving forward in life, getting things done,
and accomplishing our goals because, without it, we can feel less driven. Basically there are two types of stress: positive stress and negative stress. It depends on us how to turn our stress into positive one. Positive stress, often referred to as eustress, is the kind that provides you a little extra push and drive to complete tasks.
This kind of stress occurs when you have a big event coming up (like a wedding, a big holiday, or being pregnant). This kind of stress is
associated with good feelings, and it might motivate you to complete that large assignment so you can enjoy the trip, pack so you’re prepared to go to the hospital, or make final plans. This kind of stress might assist you with your tasks when it is present in moderation. Generally speaking, this kind of short-term stress will motivate you and be something you can handle on your own. Your performance in more that you do may well increase since you’ll be more motivated and accomplish
more.
Negative stress is also known as distress. You experience this kind of stress when you feel overburdened and overworked. It can give you the impression that you just don’t know what to do or how to complete tasks. When your supervisor is being particularly critical of you regarding a major project or when you simply have a tonne of tasks to complete, you could experience this form of stress. This type of stress is linked to feelings of worry or anxiety. Even if you’re trying to push
yourself harder, you feel like the tasks you’re attempting or the situations you’re trying to tackle are more than you can handle. This emotion could be temporary or persistent, but the longer it persists, the worse it makes you feel. Additionally, the longer it goes on, the more likely it is that you will encounter various physical and emotional issues. Read Full Article: How to Use Stress For Your Advantage.

Free Self-Hypnosis Tuition:
I
think that self-hypnosis is an incredible skill, a psychological skill that can be imported to most environments of your life and applied to most aspects of your mental and physical well-being.There are many myths and misconceptions about self-hypnosis, and it is typically taught incorrectly and not in line with scientific findings or with academic literature. It is an easy to apply skill that anyone can learn
and achieve great things with and an aim of ours here is to disseminate that understanding to the public. A great place to start learning is to download my self-hypnosis roadmap if you've not done so already, for free on this page of the college website: Self-Hypnosis Roadmap. These free resources are all based upon my own research conducted at Bournemouth University and my book on the subject, the
Science of Self-Hypnosis.
AVAILABLE NOW! The Neuroscience of Psychotherapy for Hypnotherapists. I recently ran an online series of interactive lectures entitled: The Neuroscience of Psychotherapy for Hypnotherapists.
I am about to make this into a full online training programme and am offering the chance to purchase it now before the small finishing touches are made and the price increases
to it’s full regular fee. You’ll still have the access to the full videos, the manuals and you’ll have all the updates as they are added in coming weeks. This is just the initial version, at a lower price, while we work on the finishing touches.
This is a 4-part online course that primarily offers up a series of 5 x 2 hour lectures spread into 4 distinct parts sharing findings from neuroscience that can be incorporated into your hypnotherapy work with clients. Each lecture explains the
neuroscience of many of your pre-existing approaches to hypnotherapy as well as offering brand new tools and techniques with a range of exercises for you to engage in along with reflection points to use and consolidate learning at the end of each session.
Read further information about the programme and buy online access today, read this page at the college website.
The course is included and can be accessed in full if you are a member of my Hypnotherapist Development
Hub.
In recent weeks, my social media output has been filled with video clips of me squatting at the gym, lots of evidence-based memes citing the latest hypnosis research, photos from my life and loads of articles from our
vaults and some other bits and pieces. You can follow and keep up to date here: The meme of the week is below....
In class earlier this month, I was discussing with
my students neuroplasticity, brain change and some fundamental of the neuroscience of psychotherapy. When we talk about the brain changing, updating and healing, we get to explore the wonders of neurogenesis! 🌱
Did you know that your brain has the incredible power to create new neurons, mainly in the hippocampus? This remarkable phenomenon allows our minds to grow, learn, and heal throughout life. It's a reminder that change is constant, and our brains are
ever-evolving landscapes of potential.
With well-informed approaches to brain care and a depth of understanding about neuroscience when approaching the way we conduct hypnotherapy, the brain gets nurtured, change is made effectively and we let the power of neurogenesis guide your path to other possibilities!
