Hello Welcome To This Week's Adam Up |
|
So, yesterday, my self and my dear colleague Jill Harrington ran a charity seminar day - Jill ran a morning seminar about counseling skills for hypnotherapists and I presented about the use of hypnosis for children in the afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and learned a great deal and received some very positive and kind feedback. We filmed it all and the footage will soon be added to our ever growing, vast resource that is our Platinum members area, so if you are a member, look out for it.
Then in the evening, we had a fire-walk event, with lots of people successfully walking across the hot coals. It was a marvelous celebration of life and I do love watching friends and colleagues enjoying the fire-walk experience. It is such fun.
At the end of the night, when only a few people remained, my colleague and friend Gareth Morgan and I raked out the remaining glowing coals in the darkened evening sky and put together a long, glowing, rather daunting bed of coals and walked across them just to enjoy the experience for ourselves. I loved it.
With all the excitement and fervour that occurs at a firewalk with a large group of people, it was also really lovely and inspiring to see one of the students of the school, the brilliant Lucy Hyde, step up and walk the coals before anyone else. She had spent some time seemingly detached from the rest of us, preparing herself in what looked like a bubble of peace and tranquility. She stepped up first and successfully did it.
What an inspiration.

Sometimes life gets a bit like that and I see a metaphor here with some parallels to be drawn... I think it is best summed up by Rudyard Kipling, in the brilliant poem If:
If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
I made a joke on the diploma course last year when someone questioned something I said (I mean, how dare they not treat me like a sanctimonious dictator who is clearly always right and knows best!) because after asking her question, she attempted to get others to join in and agree to support her argument. We had a lot of fun discussing it and very often, when someone really believes in something strongly, those in close proximity get drawn in without needing to be asked.
Look at big sporting events where the same team supporters all rise up in protest of something in unison, for example.
In life, often if a crisis ensues, some people react in a particular way and others automatically respond to the contagious state of mind, or develop the same feelings and all hell can be unleashed upon the world.
Sometimes, we need to be able to find ourselves a protected spot and make intelligent decisions and react in our own way rather than being dragged in to feeling and responding in the same way that others are behaving.
But rather than sitting behind the sofa next to a lovely warm radiator as my cat does, I want to help equip you with a process that enables you to do that in your own mind.
This is not just about protecting yourself from the feelings of others and joining in, and thus having your own genuine personal response. It is also about keeping calm and maintaining a progressive mindset in all kinds of life's circumstances...
And what better way to demonstrate how to do this, than to use fireworks?
And heck, I had been discussing fire-walking...

6 Steps To Use Hypnosis and Fireworks To Maintain Mental Calmness and Clarity Of Thought:
|
|
|
Step Two:
Find yourself in a room, an empty room. A shell of a room that feels safe and secure and at ease to be in. There are just the plain walls and a door. Really get this image inside of your mind in the way that is best for you.
|
Step Three:
You can stand in the centre of the room or sit comfortably within the room, and as you do, start to notice that fireworks begin to be displayed on the walls and ceiling of this room - notice all the variety of colours, the variety of effects, the variety of noises and sounds that they create...
Watch this exciting, noisy and bright display on the walls and ceiling all around you and tell yourself that with each light, with each sound, you go deeper inside of your mind and use this time to deepen your self-hypnosis for a while.
When you feel that you have sufficiently deepened your hypnosis and watched the impressive variety of fireworks for a few minutes, then move on to the next step.
|
Step Four:
Now start to imagine all the fireworks turn to the colour you thought about prior to starting with this session. Let that colour deeply dominate all the fireworks and start to imagine that colour filling the room around you and being absorbed by your body and mind.
Notice all the sounds changing into the sound you thought of prior to this session and let that sound softly and gently beging to resonate in the room and be heard and felt by your mind and body.
Now notice the calmness that develops as you focus on this colour and this sound, imagine spreading the calmness through your body so that it feels as if you are deeply calm and soothed. Absorb the colour and light to the point where you imagine you are glowing with that colour, glowing with that coloured light, with a faint hum of that wonderful calming sound. Bask in the calmness as pure calmness emanates from you, around you and all through you.
Imagine your muscles softening, your nerves doing nothing more than is absolutely necessary, and your entire being feeling centred and at ease. Importantly, notice the clarity of though that you have, feel the intelligence that you have available to you while you remain in this space and enjoying the calmness.
All the time, tell yourself that this takes you deeper into hypnosis. When you really feel like you are emanating this sensation, then move on to the next step.
|
Step Five:
Now as you continue to enjoy that feeling of calmness, notice that the fireworks start to get noisy again, and that they turn a multitude of colours again, yet you remain calm, balanced and at ease, glowing with your calmness, retaining a clarity of thought.
Start to notice that however loud and exciting and distracting and colourful the fireworks become all around you, however much they dominate the walls and ceiling of the room, you remain calm, at ease and with a clarity of thought. You choose how you feel and how you think and you retain that clarity.
Do this for a while longer and tell yourself that you start to react and respond to life's situations, circumstances and events in the same way... That regardless of what goes on around you, you are able to think intelligently, to reason well and keep your head calm and make the best decisions about how to respond and react.
|
Step Six:
When you have repeated those ideas enough times, wiggle your toes and fingers, take a good deep breath of air and open your eyes. Remind yourself of your ability to react well to life's situations and go about your day keeping that in mind. |
